Default Can BB have several different address lists?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Can anyone let me know if Blackberry could have several different address lists or not?

The reason is my boss wants to have his 5 contact lists synced with his Blackberry without contacts in a list being mixed with contacts in other lists in the Blackberry.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Tonny

Nope. One address book only.

Dear Darkwater,

I don't believe so. You may sync the Global address list from Outlook without mixing with contacts already in Blackberry. And Blackberry tech support guys said yes as well.

Please find out.

This is a one time import not a continuous sync. I know of no way currently to sync more than one address book. You can orphan contact entries into a BB, but this is not a sync. I believe the way this should be addressed is with contact Categories instead of multiple address books.

Your BlackBerry will only have one address book/list

You can have a number of different sources in Outlook that you sync over the wire with. But it will all be merged into one on the handheld.

So no way to solve my boss' request to have several groups of addresses in Blackberry?

Now another get around: how can we make use of category and import/sync the several lists with different categories specified in Outlook into blackberry?

It seems to me that the category could not be imported/synced as well, as in the case of Palms PDA. Is that true? If we can import the category as well, then my boss' request will possibly still be satisfied though in a different strategy.

Thanks, all experts there!!!

Nope.

As for the categories. That should work just fine. If you set the category in Outlook for each address book entry then it should simply carry across on the next sync.

Then you can filter by category

No subfolder capabilities that I have seen. They would be merged. Categories in Outlook are the way to go.

Many Thanks to all your guys. If the category set in the Outlook for contacts in address lists can be carried over to blackberry, I believe my problem is solved well.

One thing I am a little curious about is why are you guys willing to spend time to answer questions on the Internet without pay? Is that kind of altruism or just to improve understanding of techs yourself or just hobby? For me, I am afraid I have no time and knowledge to answer questions unless it just happens for me to answer questions.

Anyway, thanks so so so much.

Mostly hobby. There are forums for almost everything on the Internet.

AVSFORUM.com - Home Theater Forums
dropzone.com - Skydiving Forums
Bodybuilding.com - Body Building Forums
etc.

So you can get your questions answered on almost everything

Darkwater,

You work at RIM? Do a favor and release a firm update to allow sync for multiple Address / Contact , Calendar, and Notes. Oh and by the way, get me a work around so that my ringtones run off of the earpiece for Polyphonic or Music files instead of the lame sound bridge that only outputs monophonic sound.

Thanks.

oh and having a Camera and SD memcard slot would help too.

Perhaps asking him to direct us to a place where we can submit feature requests and give feedback would be more effective?

Now this would be a beautiful thing!

Problem is RIM focused on a mostly business device with security which may or may not be desired by Gov and big business and most average Joe consumers want a great personal device that can also do some business task. This is what I see when I read stuff like, "Music files instead of the lame sound bridge that only outputs monophonic sound."

I hate to say it but in the end Microsoft will play more toward the masses and, "Music files instead of the lame sound bridge that only outputs monophonic sound". The question is will RIM maintain enough interest once this happens?
