nextel representative said i can just take my sims card out of my i730 and use it with my blackberry 7520. i thought i read somewhere that you cant do that. that you need a different sims card? so my question is do i need a new sims card for my blackberry or will my sims card from my i730 work? if i need a new one can my number still be the same or will i have to change that 2?

you will have to just try it and see Nextel says they will be fried but i have seen many cases where it works just fine.

Nextel representatives are supposed to say not to do it, because there are aspects of the sim cards that ARE different. There is a possibility that some features will not work, and besides, there isn't a REAL reason to do it -- because, unlike normal nextel phones, the blackberry does not use any contacts from the sim card! The best thing to do is, for your normal phone, turn on one of the wireless web features that includes the address book and upload your contacts to the internet address book. Then, when you get your blackberry, call blackberry support and have them walk you through transferring your contacts from the internet and doing a swap to deactivate your old phone and activate your blackberry instead.

hmmmmm. i was told once you switch sims the contacts will transfer. i will have to go back and talk to them before i make my offical purchase.

Now that I can answer no the 7520 will not read contacts from a sim card in any way shape or form.

Well, the idea with a blackberry as a business device is that not storing the contacts on the sim card adds a bit of security, and since the contacts use the normal memory of the phone, you can potentially store many more contacts than on a normal nextel sim card. Basically, add that web feature, upload your contacts, when they are on the web, save it as a txt file to your desktop, then you can remove that web feature, upgrade to your blackberry (just find a 7520 somewhere with a sim card for it and have us do a swap to it rather than doing a 'normal' upgrade...), have us (blackberry web support) turn on the blackberry web, then walk you through associating the contacts from that text file with your blackberry, as it is a fairly involved process.

I used the iden phonebook to do mine easy as pie that way.

well, if you put direct connect numbers on the normal contacts from a nextel phone, you have to do a bit of tweaking to get them to go to the correct field on a blackberry when you upload them in the desktop manager.

I am not sure where theey are stored in outlook but they are all in the right plave on the handheld. I didnt have to do anything to them.

I put my sim card in my wifes 730 ran iden phone book saved it exported to a .cvs file imported into outlook 2003 ran intellisync and bam it was all there.

When I put a DC number into Outlook I put it in the Radio field. It transfers to the DC field in the BB just fine. When I input a DC number for a new contact in my BB and sync, it goes to the Radio field in Outlook.

Ah, forgive me. the suggested way is to not use outlook, but to use the text file, which has a different step...

So if I have the manager, how do I export the numbers from Outlook to an .mdb file to put it on my i305?

haha! Thanks! I want to do the opposite of what you did basically, I want the 305 as a back up, but I need to get my numbers on there. I have the Phonebook Manager, but no luck with it. I found what seems to be a great app on HoFo called idensync, but I am doing something wrong and can't get it to work....yet!!!!
