Default Strange PIN message issue

Please Login to Remove!

Probably best to describe the situation:

I have exchanged PIN messages with my buddy Bill and everything is fine.

A few days ago, Bill added the PIN number of his friend Jim (to Jim's contact entry on his BB's address book).

Today, I sent Bill a PIN message. When he replied with my original message as inline text, I noticed the To: field actually showed Jim's name instead of Bill's!

What could be causing this? Obviously my PIN messages to Bill are correctly reaching him, but it seems to be identifying him as Jim. I asked Bill to double check the address book entries to make sure the PIN numbers are all correct - they were fine.

My first guess would be for you to double check the address entries you have for Bill/Jim.

That is what i would say. Seems you may have updated the name accidentally or copied the PIN information to a second contact

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

That's exactly what I did a couple friends swpped devices and I didn't change them properly so both had same pin listed

I think you guys are missing something (it's confusing I know! )

I have nothing to do with Jim. I only have one PIN contact and that is Bill.

Bill has added Jim's PIN to his contact list.

My PINs are going to Bill correctly - they are not going to Jim.

I asked Bill to double check his contact listings for Jim and me, and he said they are correct.

So I sent a PIN to Bill. He got it and replied. I got his reply okay. However, in his reply is my original PIN shown as inline text, and the To: field shows Jim. It's almost as if HIS Blackberry is calling his own identity as Jim instead of Bill. Even though the PINs are correctly going to him.

For what it's worth, I have a Pearl on T-Mobile, and he has an 8830 on Verizon.

The only other thing I thought about was for him to reboot his device & let me know so we can test it again.

You know - good point! I was just wondering if he somehow put Jim's NAME only into his own field. Would it be under owner information or in the BB messenger application?

We were just using PIN messaging, not BB messenger. However, I did notice when I was playing around with BB messenger that I could put my name in there.

I think we got it figured out. All this effort from us at BBforums and the problem was that Bill had put his own PIN into Jim's contact info! LOL
