Default Can My BES Admin Access BIS E-Mails or Texts?

Please Login to Remove!

My company uses the BES. Is it possible for my IT admin to view my text messages OR my Hotmail messages sent/received on my BlackBerry through the BIS?

Apologies if this has been previously answered. Your responses are greatly appreciated!

You are correct... this has been discussed many times.

Texts... yes, they can audit both incoming and outgoing text messages.

Hotmail... they can definitely audit outgoing messages sent from your Blackberry if they choose to. Since a reply to an incoming BIS message usually contains the original received message... that means they can potentially see those messages as well.

Contacts can be seen by the BES/Email administrator if Wireless Sync is enabled. (Which it probably is, if the device is on a BES.)

Thanks.

Is there any way to tell if the Admin has actually configured the server to force my outgoing Hotmail messages through the company's BES?

Reply to a Hotmail message, and see if the reply comes from your work email account and/or shows up in your work account Sent mail folder.

Yes. Are you able to compose a message on your BB and send AS the Hotmail account? If not, then they have implemented the IT Policy to not allow other message services. You'll also see service books that show an icon with a slash thru it next to them.

Yes, I was able to send from my Hotmail account using my BlackBerry. When it hit my work e-mail, it said "Received Using: Desktop (Secure)," and my Hotmail address appeared as the sender in the From line.

Two Questions:

1. Based on the above (and assuming the Admin doesn't change the his current BES setting), is it then safe to assume that he won't be able to read incoming or outcoming BIS Hotmail?

2. What's the best way to filter the BIS Hotmail messages so they don't appear mixed in with my work e-mails in the BES message box?

Thanks!

Rule of thumb IMHO, company provided BB and BES, keep the personal stuff off.
