I found the following in my database sizes. What are they and how can I clean them up or delete?

Application Permissions: 7/0.5K

Attachment Data: 2/158.5K

Categories: 15/0.8K

Content Store: 51/1754.6K

RMS Databases: 5/277.9K

John, I did what you said and, it worked. I now have 31.8Mb free on my 8310. Thank you.

One thing though. I deleted the BB Dimension themes that I was not using. I use a Today theme so I removed

net_rim_theme_bbdimension_icon_320x240_b.cod
net_rim_theme_bbdimension_zen_320x240_b.cod
net_rim_theme_102a_icon_320x240_b.cod <-- AT&T theme

and was unable to use my own preferred Today theme. The display showed up with no theme in Options, Themes.

I re-instated the two Dimension themes and re-installed the OS and now it works fine.

I belive that the bbdimension theme files contain libraries of video calls that are required for good operation of the device. In particular I believe that the net_rim_theme_bbdimension_zen_320x240_b.cod Zen theme is vital. If you look at its file size, it is 1.6Mb vs. 495Kb and 194Kb for the other two themes. Thsi would indicate that the Zen theme has 'stuff' in it that everyone needs regardless of what theme you use.

I ambasing this on my experience of one Blackberry but have done multiple re-installs of late and I have been very careful as to what changes I have made with each iteration of my installs.

I have two phones, an 8310 and an 8100 so I could, if asked, repeat my tests on my not-much-used 8100.

Can I safely delete/remove the GB .cod files? I assume those are Great Britain - for english. Since I'm American, not english, I'm fine in removing those or no?

Thanks & sorry for peppering with questions, but I'm determined to clean up my blackberry!!!!

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

Those files aren't installed unless you install other languages in application loader.

Under BB 4.2 Core Application Properties on my handheld, I see "net_rim_tid_dynamic_ling_data_english_gb_35k_ 2"

Any idea why that appears and can I safely remove it?

Thanks for your help - I'd rather ask here than spend an hour turning my device into a brick & then resuscitating it..... ;)

I would be careful removing any cod files not recommended in the first post here. If it were a non-vital file, it will not be loaded and/or given a choice not load at App Loader initialization.

Also:

Files ending in _ru, _it, _fr, _de are foreign languages that can safely be removed from the main Java folder, correct?

I know it's all the same whether you remove them from the folder or via DM, but I just want to clean up that Java folder anyway.....

Thanks again for all the help - I really appreciate it.

Yes you can remove all those. It is not recommended (I don't) as a part of JC's guide, since you have the option later. As with any of those cod removals, backup your device first, and if you get an error or java exception, you can reload the cods.

Talking Impressed... - 05-11-2008, 03:27 PM

John / Joe,

I've had this link for a while now, and read it on and off. But, today for the first time I decided to follow it's instructions...

I'm impressed, to say the least...

I thought I had to get a new blackberry. All of a sudden my call logs would empty for no reason. Then my e-mails and texts started disappearing. I was pulling my hair out trying to adjust my settings to see if I had accidently reset something. T-mobile Blackberry techs were of no assistance. They wanted me to do a master reset and wipe my Pearl back to factory settings. I came here, searched for help and viola! 34 megs of free space. I was able to open my daughters mothers day card instead of getting that maddening "Unable to load content" screen. Thank you so much for this tutorial!!!

Hi, I did all the changes that were suggested on a friends 8110 from Rogers and he lost the theme that was preloaded on the device. It was a pretty simple Rogers background picture that was all red. Just wondering if somebody could help me out.

Thanks,

Rogers is vendor ID 107, you need to leave the cod file for 107 in the Java folder.

I followed the post to get the max free memory, now I have a question about it... sorry if this is the wrong place to post it.

I did everything it said; removed the themes (kept Zen and the 2 Dimension themes suggested, just in case), removed PTT, removed VAD, etc. I followed all the steps.

I use the Zen theme, and I keep it on the application screen. Meaning, rather than having just the few icons on the left side of the screen, i push my menu button and have like 20 icons that i can access easily. I have always been able to lock my keys from that screen and come back to the 20 icons, also when my backlight went off, i could push any button and still be at the 20 icon screen.
Now, since doing the max memory thing, it always goes back to the 5 icons on the left.
This is just a personal preference, so it's really not the END of the world... but it was something I found very helpful, as I accessed more than 5 icons quite regularly.
I am wondering if moving something in the memory post could be the cause of this, and if so, which file?

ALSO- since doing the memory thing, when i lock my keys my backlight no longer turns off right away. It used to go out in like 1-2 seconds, now it stays on for the same amount of time i have my backlight set for.

Any suggestions?
If all else fails, I think I may just edit the files again and put everything back.
However, this post was extremely helpful in creating some room, so I thank you for taking the time to post it!

Welcome to BBF!

Sounds to me like you updated your OS instead of just installing the same OS that you had on the device.

I'm not sure why locking the device doesn't turn the screen off, though.

In Options >About what is your OS version?
