You're like...a god. I just got my Pearl for Alltel and I'd been searching for either the T-Mobile Zen or Verizon Zen theme, now I've got them both AND free space. Thanks so much.

I followed the steps accordingly to clear up some space on my AT&T Curve 8310.

When the device booted up, the vanilla theme was used in absence of the AT&T theme, which I had removed.

I left the BB Dimension L theme for me to use, but when I go into the options, I am unable to select it.

The camera no longer works, either. The device displays:

"Could not start the camera. Close other applications and try opening the camera again."

It also shows that there is only enough space for 12 pictures, which was what the camera application displayed prior to the memory optimization.

I am using the Vodafone 4.5.0.37 OS.

First of all, Awesome guide!

Just one concern...

I'm trying to go through the steps, however I can't even make it past Step 2.

I can install my Desktop Software fine, but when I go to download my OS package, I select my carrier and it gives me the exact same file I just installed? Huh? Do I need to run that same file over the first installation? Is the OS in that second file?

It's 5:42 AM...maybe I'm misreading something... /sigh

No, it should be two separate files. One is "Desktop Manager" and one is handheld Device software".

Yep, was definitely suffering from early-morning-way-too-tired symptoms.

Downloading the handheld software now.

Sorry for the trouble, and again, wicked guide!

I uninstalled a lot of the unnecessary items as you suggested above. My BB boots up more quickly. However, I have a password on the BB. When I try to unlock it, the "unlock" field comes up, however, I can not type anything into it.

I've gone back and tried to install one by one the items I took out, however it still doesn't seem to be working. I can, however, type the password into the application loader so that I can keep trying. What did I do incorrectly?

Wondering if I screwed something up. I see the themes as being available on my device, but it booted up with the theme to:NONE it looks super retro and is awesome but.. I would like my theme support back. I was wondering if in deleting all of the _vendorID="***" parts I messed something up.

I also removed the pre-installed wallpapers

blackberry 8310 ATT.
I'm looking into it just wondering if anyone had a similar experience

Edit:
I downloaded the Bphone theme from rogersmj.com and it will not show up on my theme list after a hard reset. I must have deleted something important.

Edit:
Apparently deleting the net_rim_theme_dimension_zen theme breaks the plazmic theme support for the whole phone. Upon re installation of it I have working themes again.

Excellent tread, from a true to life guru, but after following this and others I cannot get my free memory more than 12,xxx,xxx Mb.

Ok I have a couple of Apps, Viigo, Bookworm, Worldmate and my contacts folder is about 2mb, all themes are gone and all ringtones & pictures are on the media card.

What should I be looking to realistically achieve. If the phone was blank (with os and critical systems) what would the free memory be and then I can maybe see where and why it appears so "Full"?!?!

From 55mb to 12mb free is alot of "stuff"

Exceptionally annoying really, having just migrated to a Blackberry from other business phones this is now feeling rather more like a Gooseberry since I like to mod / update my phones but this is a rather poor situation to be hacking away at software just to protect a basic function (call logs), Yes??

It feels more like a device problem rather than a true overload. Should I be returning the unit as this is the second I have had, the first had an "issue" with Bluetooth!

Many Cheers and look forwards to any directions from you old hands out there!

If you have no shared folder it means you didn't install the OS or your looking in the wrong place.

Also, don't remove the preinstalled ringtones.

Default Something is still wrong - 07-17-2008, 01:17 PM

I have also had problems with my Curve deleting messages. This morning, my File Free size was 0 bytes. I read these instructions, cleared browser caches, did hard resets, removed the battery, shortened save time on appointments, and deleted several seldom-used applications. I'm showing File Total 58,064,896 and File Free 6,033,556. But when I go to DM, the total application size is 3,361 K.

Even if I were to remove all applications > 100 KB (which would then make my problems moot), I'd still only get to about 9 MB free.

All my photos are on the SD card.

Any ideas at all?

PS I posted before editing my profile. I'm now on a 8310 with ATT.

Default Help DM won't load - 07-17-2008, 01:24 PM

Hey all,

Ok so here is my problem: Last night I did JC's recommended changes and I went to start up DM to load them to my Sprint 8330 and all DM will do is flash on the screen but it won't start up. So then I tried reinstalling DM that didn't work, then I did a system restore and DM worked but of course the copy the OS and the changes were gone, then I gave up and went to bed.

This morning I tried again, but as I made changes I checked to see if DM would load. After deleting the vendor file, DM worked, when I edited the Blackberry.alx file in the shared file everything went to crap. Then I tried reinstalling DM but I got the same results as last night, nada zip zilch, DM won't load, what am I doing wrong??

BTW I'm doing all of this on a laptop running vista home, DM is v. 4.3 for sprint, with a sprint 8330 running OS 4.3.

Thanks,
Keith

You say your read these instructions. Did you follow them? You have too much stuff on your device. The reason you only see 3Mb of stuff on the device is that you don't have the OS installed. Please follow the instructions in the first post of this thread.

Are you using Vista? When you install DM right click on the .exe file and select "Run As Administrator."

What cod files would I need to remove if I wanted to get rid of all the preloaded ringtones & sounds? Possible?

Thanks!

Even if only using the vibrate profile?

Edit/Add: I dont use any sounds/ringtones, etc. Only the vibrate setting, this would mess things up still if deleting the ringtones/sounds?

The stock ringtones take very little space, like .25 MB
