Thanks very much to Mark Rejhon on article HOWTO: BlackBerry As Modem For Laptop [User] HOWTO: Use BlackBerry As Modem For Laptop!

On top of this topic, I would like to share with you, for Malaysia Maxis Carrier, here's the information needed for setup the connection:

Standard Modem Advanced setting. (IMPORTANT SPECIAL CONFIGURATION STEP) Under Extra initialization commands:
at+cgdcont=1,"IP","net"

User name and password for dialing:
username: maxis
password: wap
Dialing no.: *99#

Standard Modem Advanced setting. (IMPORTANT SPECIAL CONFIGURATION STEP) Under Extra initialization commands, there are 2 command we can use:

at+cgdcont=1,"IP","net"

OR

+cgdcont=1,"IP","net"

Modem Speed = 9600 / Also work with 115200kbps


================================================== ========


Under BlackBerry Modem Properties - Security - Choose ADVANCED (Custom settings) - Settings ....

=> Data encryption : Optional encryption (connect even if no encryption)
=> Allow this protocols - Tick only Unencrypted password (PAP)

Default Error Message

Julie, I am using BB from Maxis. I am trying to use the BB as modem to my laptop. I have tried to do all the setup as described, but I am getting this message after the pop up showing "connecting". The error message is "TCP/IP CP reported error 718". Please help. Please e-mail me your response to [email address]
