Default Verizon Issues??

Please Login to Remove!

Do any other Verizon users occasionally experience issues with not being able to access data (i.e. internet, email) occasionally? I've had the Pearl (8130) for 3 weeks now and have had three occasions in which for most of the day I have been out of commission. The most recent issue started on Sunday and this morning (Tuesday), I am still not able to access my email or the internet. Is this common? I wouldn't think so, however, if I'm going to have a device like the Pearl that I rely on for email communication, it needs to have better reliability than this (the network that is).

I'm glad to hear that this is not common! I am on BIS and my email account is one from home that is actually through Verizon DSL (i.e. [email address]). Beside from the fact that I'm not able to access my email, since Sunday, everytime that I have try to connect to the internet (using the standard browser as well as Mini Opera), I am unsucessful. Is there any other information that I can provide that might help shed some light on this issue?

This is likely the source of your problem. It has been reported by several, including me, that browsing with Opera Mini will sometimes render your data connection useless. A battery pull (or Soft Reset) seems to be the only cure.

I cannot find the cause, or a pattern for this behavior. I did update the OS on my Pearl 8130 over the weekend (Alltel's latest releasse .81) and have not had the problem since (fingers crossed). Maybe this is a RIM OS problems and not an Opera Mini problem. Time will tell for me.

you can also change opera minis connection type in the settings to see if that helps.

I did try that before my OS upgrade -- still lost the data connection.

Thanks to everyone for all of the suggestions. I ended up getting everything back up and running after about a five minute phone call to Verizon. The tech rep had me do the following:

Go into options, advanced options, host routing table, push the menu key and select "Register Now". Then take out the battery.

Within a minute or two, everything was working again. I wonder if simply a battery pull is all that would have been needed or perhaps the "register now" is what helped restore my data connection. According to the Verizon rep, it was the latter.

This was a strange problem because everything else was working fine (i.e. voice calls). Also, this has happened before, but it has just cleared itself up without me doing anything. This time, however, I needed to do something because two days without a data connection is ridiculous. If this happens again, I'm going to remove Opera Mini and see if that may be causing the problem.

By the way, how often would you suggest updating the towers (*228, option 2). I hardly ever did this with my old phone but perhaps it would have helped.

I think the battery pull would have been sufficient. Better yet, install Soft Reset. Also, see my post (#6) above -- you should try updating your OS.

About once every two months should be plenty.

I have an 8130 on Verizon and this happens to me too. It doesn't happen all the time, but I was in SoCal over Christmas, and it happened every other day. Phone & text worked fine - email & internet did not. A battery pull would solve the problem. Now that I'm home, I hadn't had it happen....until this morning. I had to do a battery pull.

I do have Opera installed, but rarely used it. Yesterday, I used it. I can't say it's related, but I guess I should pay attention to it.
