Default How to set Inbox folder as default view?

Please Login to Remove!

We are finding current view under 'messages' option to be rather confusing, sent and received email together. How can I change the default view to look inside my inbox folder? Cannot find option on BB or BES.

Please help

Probably because it doesn't exist.

You can however filter the messages if you need to look for something specific.

Also you can disable redirection of sent items. That might help.

There is no "Inbox"; there is one and only one Messages folder. If you'd like to filter out everything except the Incoming messages, you can press <ALT> I to filter the messages folder. However, this is not sticky - every time you leave the folder it reverts to the default Messages view.

We found the same problem with the Sent Items. Here is what we did:
As I am sure everyone knows, every item you send from your desktop gets forwarded to your handheld as a sent item. After you sit at your Desktop firing off a few dozen emails, it can be very annoying to have weed through all those sent items that just popped up on your Handheld.

Unfortunately, once you delete the sent items from your handheld to “get them out of the way”, you also delete them from your Desktop.

There’s a way to keep those sent items (sent from your Desktop in Outlook) from appearing on your Handheld.

To do this:
1. Go to your message inbox in your Handheld
2. Click the wheel to bring up the menus
3. Scroll down and select “Options”
4. In the “Message Options” menu, scroll down and select “Email Filters”
5. Once you are in “Email Filters”, click the wheel and select “New”
6. Create a filter called "sent items"
7. Add your name to the From field
8. Set Action to Do not forward
8. Exit out of the filter making sure you save it

***Please note: ****

This simple filter works by telling your handheld NOT to import any emails sent by you from Outlook. It will NOT affect your Desktop items. If you send out an email to someone and copy yourself, you won’t get that copy on your handheld.

Lastly, if you use this filter and you send an email from your Handheld, you WILL see the sent item on your Handheld.

Actually, on the 7520, there ARE folders, and one is called INBOX. If you view that inbox, it just gives you the messages in the INBOX.

I believe the default view gives you ALL messages in ALL your folders, as there are SMS folders, Placed call folders, etc.

It would REALLY be nice to just see the inbox as a view, or a way to define the view...

Wasn't trying to 'start' anything, since well, I JUST got my 7520 yesterday, but I noticed that I have 'folders' that are:

Browser Messages
Direct Connect Alert Logs
Direct Connect Call Logs
Missed Calls
Phone Call Logs
SMS Inbox
SMS Outbox
SMS SIM Card Inbox
WAP Push Messages
Web Client
Inbox
Draft
Sent
Trash

If you do a View Folder, and select Folder - Inbox, you get JUST the inbox... There must be SOMETHING to make this a perm view...

Wow, I had never noticed that before. Thank you for the tip!

Now that I know about this option, I tried to see if it was possible to make it a default view and I have had no luck. You would think it would be possible. Please pardon my ignorance, but it seems to me that the makings are there for RIM to configure the OS to have folder views within the message umbrella similar to Outlook. I'm not sure why they didn't develop the OS further to do just that.

Prevent Having a Copy of Your Desktop Messages Sent To Your Blackberry

When you send a message from the email program on your desktop computer, a copy of the message is sent to your handheld under the Sent folder. You can prevent the copy from going to your handheld by modifying the folder redirection settings on your handheld or in Desktop Manager.

To modify your handheld

1. From the Home screen, click the Messages icon.
2. Click the trackwheel, then Options.
3. Click Email Settings. The Email Settings screen appears.
4. Click the trackwheel, then Folder Redirection.
5. Click the Mailbox folder, then Expand.
6. Click the Sent Items check box, then Change Option. Verify that the Sent Items check box is clear.
7. Click the trackwheel, then Close.
8. In the confirmation window, click Save.

Copies of messages sent from the email client will no longer appear on your handheld.

To modify Desktop Manager

1. In Desktop Manager, double-click the Redirector Settings icon. The Redirector Settings window appears.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Click Choose Folders. The Choose Folders window appears.
4. Clear the Sent Items check box, then click OK.
5. To save your changes and close the window, click Apply, then OK.

Copies of messages sent from the email client will no longer appear on your handheld.

On the Nextel 7520 (nextel), when you click options you only get General Options and Email Reconciliation. Email Settings does not exist.

This might only show up if your on BES. The way VR6 showed is how I set mine up since 4.0 came out and it is the way to go.

This might be easier:
Messages -> Options -> Email Settings -> (Click Track Wheel) Folder Redirection: Uncheck Sent Items.
OR
Desktop Manager -> Redirector Settings -> Advanced -> Under Folder Redirection so the 'Selected Folders' option and then Click 'Choose' and uncheck Sent Items
OR
BlackBerry Enterprise Server -> User Properties -> Redirection -> Selected Folders then click Choose and uncheck Sent Items.

You might have something there, when I FIRST got my 7520, (Yesterday) and I hadn't synced it with the desktop, I remember seeing folders SOMEWHERE before the Enterprise Activation went away.

Hmmm.. Who knows...

I also thought the Nextel 7520 had built in Instant messaging, but don't see that anywhere. I can't see spending 30-40 bucks a year for THAT on top of what I'm already spending for for having the nextel (49 a month).

Alt-I is a quick way of just showing you the inbox. Alt - O for outbox (i.e. sent items)

Back button goes to default view.

4.1 should (allegedly) have a hide sent messages option (like the hide filed messages one)and provide seperate mailbox items for multiple BIS accounts.

Yup, discovered the alt-i button. Works quite well. Is there a timeframe for the .1 release?

So far, I am very pleased with my blackberry. I WISH I could have conned the state into purchasing the Enterprise server, but the desktop redirect is working wonderfully. AND Fast too, which is quite a shock.

The only thing NOT moving that fast, is the blackberry.net connection. Doesn't seem to pickup my pop mail very fast. OH well, at least the work stuff is coming fast, and that is what matters right?

But doesn't this cause the "sent items" folder information to be out of sync between the BB and the Exchange Inbox? I made this change and realized this and re-enabled which populated my "messages" view with all the "sent items" stuff from my Exchange mailbox. When I delete these from the BB, the entries are also deleted from the "sent items" folder on my Exchange mailbox. (We need to maintain the Exchange "sent items" with everything originated either on the BB *or* Outlook.)

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Yes, that is the way it works like it or not. Hopefully RIM will give us better control of sent items in the next release. Now it's kind of all or nothing.

I tried this and it seemed to create more problems for me.
