Red face Disappearing messages in inbox on handheld

Please Login to Remove!

I have an Individual who has a Blackberry 8800 device that almost every 30 days will remove all previous messages from there inbox on the handheld device.

I have checked my BES server logs and the only common factor "I think" I see is that OTAFM service seem to start at or around the time this occurs.

This is a reoccuring issue for the past 2 months.
Any thoughts?

Reaching for straws here, but is it possible that the device is low on memory?

Perhaps they have auto-deletion turned on?

Message Folder>Menu>options>Keep Messages (=Forever)?

I haven't heard of a memory issue with the 8800 series before. What is the free memory on the device menu>options>Status? (file free and total memory since I don't know how much this device has).

All BB devices will do this memory cleaning when memory gets low. I had a 7100t user hand me his phone the other day and say that all his call logs disappeared. He had 200Kb left on the device. If there are many emails with attachments, 3rd party apps, etc. and/or the device hasn't been rebooted in months it can happen.

Thanks John! That is good to know. I have just never seen a case in my lurking. Do the 87xx and 88xx have more on board memory or are they just leaner to start with?

They just don't have cameras so memory doesn't fill up as fast. The 7100t was just a couple days ago and it's the first time I've seen it, as well. The new media capable devices just use up more memory so they are quicker to reach critical memory levels.

Good to know. And speaking of new devices I notice that the 8130 has a LOT less available memory than the 8100 out of the box, is this because of video or are they just loading it up with more. I guess I am getting a little (ok a lot) off topic here sorry.

FYI I have seen the memory leak on the 8830, and it is fixed by the usual method.

If the email system does not have a limit on the amount of storage on the inbox , it may be that an unlimited number of files are sent to the Bb and when it reaches it's memory limit it clears.
My company set the limit at 30 megs( Outlook inbox ) and his may not have one.
Attachments usualy are not downloaded with the email unless the user requests it. If he does it may go over very quick.

Just some thoughts
