Default Help :-/ (SMS Problem)

Please Login to Remove!

hi there, ive been enjoying the pearl (8120) for about a month now till this problem hit me out of nowhere.
a few days ago all my sms got deleted by itself without me doing anything as well as the call log. i asked a friend who also had a blackberry not the pearl and he said it happens from time to time also happens to his emails but not mine. so i thought it was a common thing to free up some memory. but today i was looking at my phone and i recieved a text, half a second later before the msg tone even started the text was deleted, i asked my friend to send me a msg to test it. and the problem happened again. 2 hours later i recieved a few more text but they were not deleted. so i thought the problem is gone but half an hour ago i check my sms inbox and it was empty.... i checked the options and the keep messages option is saved on forever. can anyone help me in this matter.

Thank you.

Check your available memory in Options > Status. If its low do search on freeing up memory or read this: How do I free up memory on my device? - BlackBerryFAQ.com

Yes, you are having a memory issue. Your phone will delete these items when it needs space regardless of how recent or old they are. To check your memory: Menu>Options>Status (What is your file free?)

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8100: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

What is happening is your device is low on memory, or it has none left. When this happens the call logs and messages will start to be deleted.

If you check BlackBerryFAQ.com, in the 8100 section, there will be a document that discusses this issue.

The memory card is really only for media files (music,video,etc)... your applications use the device memory

Thank you.
Your device has 64mg of space "on-board". You have a 2GB Media Card that can be used only to store Media, nothing else. When you "on-board" memory drops too low the device deletes messages and phone logs to protect the amount of memory it needs to function.

And unfortunately, you cannot store messages or applications on your Media Card.

Follow the link and free up some memory. If you follow the instructions you will have sufficient memory to avoid this in the future.

Good Luck!

I would try and see if you can get it a few MB higher. Did you delete the sample video and un-used languages? Did you have any pictures stored on device memory, if so get rid of them.

You should keep an eye on your memory every couple of days and if it's getting low then do a hard reset (Battery pull while the phone is on). You also might want to try searching for a program called Softreset by Metsfan. A handy little program that allows you to do a hard reset without pulling the battery.

Good Luck!
