User had a Pearl that was syncing quite well over BES. No problems.

Device broke. User got a new one.

We cannot get it to sync anything more than messages and calendar. It will not sync contacts, tasks, etc. It's like they don't even exist.

If you go to "Address Book" on the device, you get greeted with "No Addresses" even though the user has thousands in their Exchange "Contacts" folder, and these were syncing fine with the last device.

Verizon said to resend the Service Book, which we did. No change.

A forum post said to delete two of the Service Books (Desktop SYNC and Desktop CMIME), which we did and resent. No change.

We deleted the entire user and device off the system, hard reset it and started over. No change.

Under "Default Services," only "Messaging" and "Calendar" are listed.

Under the user's properties in BES, everything is set to bidirectional sync.

Any ideas?

What about the wireless sync option on the BB for Contacts/Tasks/Memopad? Just go into Options for each one and you should see wireless synchronization set to "yes" for each one. If that option isn't there then the service book is corrupted as that is what controls that option.

I seen that you have deleted the Desktop[SYNC] and resent it already and even reactivated the BB. Did you wipe the BB after removing the user from the BES? Never hurts to do that.

Are there ever any events in the Event Viewer for that user regarding either of those PIM items?

Does the Address Book show in the items to be synced during the Activation?

Have you tried switching BB's with another for a test? See if the issue follows the user or the BB.

You also mentioned that he has thousands of contacts, how many exactly? A large address book will take some time to sync during the Activation. How long does it take the user to activate?

I would check that first. Let us know how it goes.

Assuming he does have a "corrupted service book," what do you do about that? There are 20-30 entries in the service book list. Do I delete some of them and resend via the BES console? Which service books?
