Out of curiousity, does the new Google Talk work using my SMS messages or my data plan? I have unlimited data, but only 400 SMS messages a month.

As far as I know, it uses your data plan. Otherwise, I'm going to be out a bit of cash in a few weeks.... ;)

Trust me, I'm hoping for the same thing. Otherwise the wifey will be pretty upset with the SMS messages....

The Google Talk application for BlackBerry uses your data connection, not SMS messages.

This program should help you monitor the usage:

MiniMoni - Traffic monitor for BlackBerry

Program is developed by Axel Ehnert, great guy, really helpfull.
Consider making a donation if you like the program.

Anyway, yes, gtalk uses data
