If you used JavaLoader, then the ALX file is *not* used.

I've added Messenger to my 7280 on Rogers using JWater's javaloader method...seems to have worked...

but when i go to add contact it asks me for an email address...i was expecting it to ask me for a PIN?!?! right?

EDIT: sorry that's right, instead of hitting the enter button when highlighting [Use Once], click the wheel, then choose Request by PIN and then enter in the person's PIN

It gives you a choice of email or pin. Pick pin to add by pin.

I believe the email has to be the blackberry email address. I've not added anyone that way, it's just as easy to ask for their PIN.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7520/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/5.1.2.12)

Hello
This may seem like a silly question but does anyone think this may be integrated with other messenger services? ie msn, yahoo, etc.

I really like this software however not to many people I know have Blackberrys, but I am working on them.

Question OTA Download - 07-05-2005, 11:31 PM

Has anyone else received errors on the OTA download I posted for this, and if so, have you found a way to fix it?
Also, on a related note, does anyone know what kind of error would be generated on a user's device if they were behind a BES/MDS that does not allow OTA downloads (would it be an invalid jar error)?

Sorry for that double post. I am not sure why that happened. It was the first time I tried to post from my actual blackberry.

Ok I need help. I installed and am using the Messenger, it is a great little tool. I love it. However, i know it can be used to send pictures, and i have tried and succeeded but only to one of my contacts that appears as default when i choose send to messenger. Anyone know how to make the other contacts appear on that window. I have tried to remove the one there to type another name and no success, I have also tried to scroll to no success, and finally tried clicking on the wheel to see if the list of choices would appear and it only sends to that person again. I am wondering if it has anything to do with the way people are either added to the list or if they are not available if their names just do not show. Anyone??

Ok i have the answer to the picture sending question, in order for you to be able to send pictures via BB Messenger the person has to be available, if they are set to away or unavailable, you will not see their names show on the list of contacts when you press on a picture and choose to send the picture. My apologies to J Waters who wound up get a whole bunch of the same picture until I figured it out. Hope this helps some of you.

Thanks. Now which files do I need to download from the http://www.personalwireless.org/ota site. I also see some other goodies on there like AvantGo - will this work on my Cingular 7290? Also, what's the JavaLoader and where do I get it and at point do I use it to load the files.

Surely this is the software they announced months ago. I heard nothing more about this until I saw these posts and put 2 and 2 together and hopefully got 4.

If this is the case then I guess the software will offer intergration between msn, aim and pin.

fingers crossed cos it sounds like you guys are having fun with this.

I got some documentation on it today... apparently you can tell when a contact's bb is off, out of range OR if they are on the phone... that is denoted by the clock icon over the face icon beside their name...

time stamp "Users can see when instant messages were sent and received by scrolling over the messages on the conversation screen. A time stamp appears briefly."

To delete a group.. there can be no contacts currently in there.

"Why has a contact disappeared from the my contact list?

Verify that the Group that contact is in is no collapsed. Also if you have been deleted from the contacts contact list, the contact will not be displayed in your contact list."

Thank you, however, your site is not set up correctly to do ota downloads. Depending on if you have Apache or IIS, there are different ways you need to config your server in order to enable the downloads (right now, if you click on a file, it just shows the text, rather than prompting for a download). I have an IIS server on my home computer, so I can help you set it up on IIS if you would like, and there are other posts that explain how to set it up on Apache. However, as it is now, the downloads on your webpage are not working. Also, I noticed that you mirrored all of the files out of my bbota directory, and I have no problem with this, however most/many of these downloads do not work (I think mjabber and bbm are the only ones that work). You're more than welcome to host them, but please test them to make sure they work. I use this directory on my webserver to test apps that may/may not work on the BlackBerry, so be careful when you copy them. Other than that, thanks a bunch, I'm sure that BrightHouse Cable appreciates you taking strain off their lines from when people go to my website .

I am getting the JAR error on the OTA install as well.

I REALLY want to see and use this app, so I am gonna stay at it and see what happens.

OK, quick update. I was using the MDS browser yesterday and getting the JAR error. I used the Cingular browser, which doesn't go over MDS, today and it worked great. Perhaps the MDS was the reason for the jar error?

I used the javaloader to get this on my 7510 and it seems to be working. This is something that a particular group of my users would love and if I can turn on auditing, my net admin might go for it too. Thanks guys!

Hey, similar to WV/IMPS! That's actually useful, then.
