Hmmm without bb data jivetalk will probably not work well if at all.
People have managed to get some data to work without BB data plan. Do search many threads about it sir!
Try the blackberryfaq may be in there

| If you're on T-Mobile and have a regular minutes plan already, BIS unlimited is $20/month. And without a Blackberry Data Plan there's not much point in having a Blackberry. You'd be better off with something like a Nokia E61i and the $5.99 TZones plan. | | Offline

Blackberry is for people who want the extra advantage the BB data plan brings. You'd be better off getting a non-blackberry with a cheap data plan.

You might look at How to use BlackBerry on Generic Data Plan - BlackBerryFAQ.com
As far as paying for nothing, I don't get you. As another above said, the TMO USA blackberry plan is $20/mo and you get a heck of a lot for that.

| Before getting back to Blackberrys, I was using the Nokia E61i with TZones myself, and it was pretty good. I could browse the web and check multiple email accounts. The Blackberry experience is head and shoulders above it, but it will at least do the basics. | | Offline

| Why do people buy Blackberrys and not want to spend the money to make it work? I agree with Rambo47 , get a standard Cell phone.
The T-Mobile at $20 is a good buy compaired to the other carriers

| Geez people....there are lots of reasons to buy a BB and not have a data plan. I have two Pearls in my house (wife and daughter) who have no data plan. My daughter loves to text message with it and my wife likes having the calendar/outlook sync to keep track of the kids schedules. '
Quit giving folks a hard time for not getting a data plan. If they choose not to have one and are just looking to see what the most they can do, it seems fine with me. If they are looking for a way to get what they didn't pay for then, granted, that doesn't make sense. | | Offline

At least it did for me. I appreciate someone wanting a blackberry but not desiring to have the data plan. It's the wanting the service, or some of it, and not wanting to pay the freight.

| Yeah, the "pay $40 for nothing" phrase is a little nonsensical.
The profile throws me, though. 8310 on TMobile?
To the OP: A little more info please? Are you on TMobile and what device did you purchase? | | Offline

| I read the FAQ about generic data, I assume the same tactics apply to using an AT&T Wireless plan (i.e. configuring GMAIL and such)? | | Offline

What chaps me butt is when folks ask, over and over again, how to get over on the system and get data for free. They clearly want email or IM but either didn't do their homework and learn what's required, or they just want someone to hand them a workaround. It's an epidemic I tell ya! | | Offline

| you need some kind of data plan to get data, or you will pay through the nose for per KB charges. As for 56k being faster, edge tops out at 400kbps, and EVDO at 700kbps download. | | Offline

If you're just an individual wanting push email and such it's a personal preference. 56k faster?? On what planet?
