Default blackberry with fido - belongs to rogers

Please Login to Remove!

ok, so i got a bb 7280 on ebay. poped in my fido sim. and it worked! my phone works, my email doesnt and i do not have a browser icon. as far as i know i need a service book. fido tech support has no idea what a blackberry is and the rogers techies wanna send me a service book, but they cant access my account. also i cant use msn messenger for mobile that works via sms, the number i send a sms message to is is +9900931 i got a welcome message and it says to respond to the welcome message, however when i respond, the blackberry gives me a packet error message. tried this on my other fido branded phone, same thing. i tried signing up for a blackberry web client account and it tells me that my IMEI and PIN are not allowed. I tried on the fido webclient and the rogers one. PLEASE HELP!

Your BB will not work for email, web or SMS unless you have a Blackberry data package. Fido does not house any Blackberry infrastucture or BES servers for that matter. Long and short is your BB is nothing more then a phone on the Fido network. You will need to contact Rogers for a data package to use the BB as you would like.

You also can't sign up/register a BWC account until you have a data package in place, just hope that the IMEI and PIN have been released from the previous owner or your really dead in the water being an eBay BB and all.

Maybe its a service they plan on launching at a later time but without a data package and BWC account there's not much you can do with 7280 except use it as a phone.

in your work contract... it will tell you that you legally aren't allowed to "mess" with your own account

That and the fact that only a select group of numbers on the Fido network are able to work with that site as it is a test site. Even if you manage to convince a high level tech (highly improbable) to add your number and the Blackberry data option, the system will kick it out instantly. Your BB is just a glorified phone on Fido.

Why in Bob's Green Earth did you dredge up an almost year-old thread?

It won't work with Fido at all except for sms and voice calls. If you do get a job at Fido you won't be able to add a blackberry data pack to your account. I have friends who work for fido and I have family members who work for multi carriers, trust me when i say you're S.O.L on this one. If you want to use a gsm blackberry your only choice in Canada is Rogers.
