Docs to go will be an excellent addition to the Blackberry OS. It fills a gap between the users that want basic editing and storage and the power users of an Eoffice type application.

And just head off at the pass (yes I WAS raised on a farm) those questions about how can I get it on my BB....

We continue to receive a high volume of inquiries regarding the status of Documents To Go. As previously mentioned, this project is taking longer than originally anticipated and there are a few reasons for this. The main reason is that current BlackBerry devices are not equipped to allow native downloading and editing of Office files. However, RIM recently announced an upcoming BlackBerry platform update with performance enhancements including the ability to support native document downloading and editing through integration with Documents To Go. To take full advantage of this feature, users will need an update to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1.5 as well as an OS update for their BlackBerry smartphone to version 4.5.

Um, so they're only rolling this out to BES users?

Man...this is not funny. My wife having more functionality than I do w/a tech toy is so wrong. :(

I can't believe they are going to leave BIS users in the lurch on this one...

It doesn't say they're only rolling it out to BES users.

From above..."To take full advantage of this feature, users will need an update to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1.5 as well as an OS update for their BlackBerry smartphone to version 4.5."

Doesn't sound like the door is entirely shut ('...full advantage...') but doesn't sound too positive either.

Default A bit of a teaser - 01-24-2008, 03:50 PM

Dataviz has had their BB page going for 4 months now where you could sign up for advance notification. Now they are talking about OS4.5? Last time I looked, we were still waiting for 4.3, at least for the 88XX series. How long until we get 4.5? The BES sides doesn't worry me as I am on a BES and we regularly update, but will the 8800 even see 4.5?

BlackBerry 9530, trying 4.7.0.90, come on baby please don't media card me

They have stated they are jumping directly to 4.5..... there is no more 4.3.x work being done. it was a PR choice they said.

BGR says they just re-named the 4.3.x as 4.5, all featuers intact. I SO can't wait for these two things!

Indeed. I used DocumentsToGo on my Palm TX and it was quite the program. I'm definitely looking forward to taking advantage of this once it's released!
