Just purchased a new 8310 from an AT&T store today 01/24/08. I have two registration messages on the unit. One is dated today but the other is dated 12/15/2007.

The message is from Blackberry with the subject Registration and reads "Your handheld has been registered with the wireless network".

Did I get a unit that was returned??? Seems kinda odd.

You should receive one when the device is registered on the network. If you turn on a device with no SIM in it you should still see a preloaded message.

Could have been a demo used in the store. Sealed box?

The devices I activate frequently have an old date on them when they are first provisioned including the Sprint 8830's when they first came out (so I know they weren't used).

I just adjust the date to the current date (and time zone!) and activate it.

Not really sure. Sales person came out of the backroom with the box and placed the unit on the counter for prep. Couldn't say if he took it out of the box or not. Really hate to be suspicious but the December message just doesn't make any sense to me.

When my phone was first activated the message came through with a date several weeks old. I still have the message and at some point, the date changed to the correct date of the day I bought the phone. Save the activation email and see if the same thing happens.

I believe that when power is stopped after testing is done at the factory, the clock stops updating and it keeps that date until the battery is popped in at the store. Then it takes a little while for the clock to update to the current date.

No you would not get a used phone. Once a phone is sold out even if it didn't leave the store it can't be resold. The inventory system sees it as a used device and it must be returnced to the reconciliation facility!

hmmm, interesting. I'll see if that happens.
