Default Will Blackberry work without BES?

Please Login to Remove!

I am sure this has been asked and answered several times but here is my situation.

My firm has Microsoft Exchange Server and everyone has TREO's. I personally cant stand mine and am shopping for a new phone. I was going to get the Samsung Blackjack II but realize that it really isnt that great of a phone. I started looking at the Curve and realize it was much more stable. The issue is, can I run the Blackberry and still sync everything wirelessly like my Treo did with Exchange Server. My firm has no intention of purchasing the BES and I wanted to know what my options were. I know the phone comes with the redirect software but I dont have a PC in my office as we are all on terminal servers and I beleive when I log off my computer is off so the redirect wouldnt work......

Any suggesstions?

W/out BES you can't have wireless sync of anything except email, and email sync has some limitations...

Your company must provide either IMAP or OWA access to your emails for BIS to provide your work email on your BB w/out using redirector. As long as you can enable IMAP or OWA access you'll be able to receive/send your work emails from the BB, and Sent emails from the BB will appear in your server-side Sent email box on Outlook.

Emails will arrive on your BB up to 15 minutes later than in Outlook.

Contacts, Calendar, Notes, and Tasks have to be sync'd via USB cable, no wireless options (though there is a new 3rd-party wireless sync option for BIS users in beta that should be available in the next few months).

What about the Blackberry Professional software? I read that it is free for one user on a server? Do you have any information on this?

It is free for one user and I think you can add up to 15 users in total, with a cost per user license.
This may be a solution.

You can still use BIS, but it is not BES, not even close.

Google is your friend...

BlackBerry - BlackBerry Professional Software

BlackBerry

As I understand it, unless you can get this installed on servers inside your comany's firewall, I don't believe this will be an option for you...you'd need close cooperation of your IT dept.

I use redirector to send my email to my BB. The only drawback is I don't get my emails when my laptop is not connected to the company. The good thing is I don't get my emails when my laptop isn't connected to the company. However, redirector works well for me and I never notice it running.

I sync my calander/contacts via bluetooth. I just open desktop manager and minimize it to my tray. Every time I come to my desk it ask if I want to sync it. It's not BES but it works.
