RIM's future?

After reading about Microsoft's future release of Exchange 2003 SP2 working in conjuction with ActiveSync, I'm doubtful of RIM's success of being the leader in the PUSH email solution. Should I bail on my BB device, since I still 10 days left out of my trial period? Reason I'm asking is because I'm planning to keep my 'new' device for years and I'd hate to see my BB device not be supported in the near future.

I think RIM's BB solution is going to be here for a long time. First of all MSFT solution is not push, it is pull. Plus you will always see MSFT catching up with BB's with respect to features. Furthurmore things like stability and reliability is something BB is known for. Since MSFT solution is not out yet so I cannot comment on these. Security is another major part of the BB package. Plus you can access third party apps like CRMs etc using MDS. So in my opinion BB solution is not going away anytime soon.

How you walked away with that impression is beyond me. ;)

RIM's product has gone thru several years of refinement.
Service Pack 2 for Exchange is Microsoft's first attempt.

Not saying that Exchange won't rival BlackBerry eventually, but it's their first time out of the gate, and to expect it to perform as well as BlackBerry seems a little unrealistic. <shrug>

Also, with the price of BlackBerry handsets lower than some top-end "regular call phone" models, why would you plan to hang on to it for years? I could see 1-2 years, but the way that technology changes, you're probably going to end up wanting a newer one before then anyways. :)

Having seen the debut of Microsoft products and features for many years, I certainly won't be one of the pioneer users of their technology. But seeing as how I earn my living fixing Microsoft problems, I encourage everyone else to be the first on the bandwagon!

If Microsoft ever starts releasing products that work like they're supposed to, I'll be out a job.
