If you can hold off, the current rumor is that Verizon will be releasing the Curve towards the end of March, beginning of April.

if you carried it daily in a about a week or less you would be as fast as a standard keyboard. I used to be a huge proponent of the standard keyboards swore up and down I would never own suretype now I actually prefer it over the standard. I can type as fast or faster with suretype one handed because it learns the words you use.

I didn't like the 8830 keyboard at all...yuck feel/response for me.

You have to give the 8130 a chance...the keyboard has plenty of room for me (fat-fingered boy that I am) and suretype is very fast. As noted, you just have to finish typing the word, and 99% of the time (for me) Suretype nails it at or just before the last few letters.

But to each his own, right?

I would skip the 8703e and get either the Pearl or 8830, or wait for the Curve. If you want QWERTY and a larger form factor, and don't need "world phone" capability, the Curve is a superior device to the 8830, IMHO.
