I have a Verizon Pearl with the $15 per month tethering plan. I am able to tether via a USB cable with no problem, but am unable to get the tethering working with Bluetooh. The Bluetooth program on my laptop (Eee pc) shows that the Pearl is paired with the computer. When I click "connect" on Verizon's software when using Bluetooth, it dials, but then states that there is a hardware failure.

Is it possible to tether through Verizon's software using Bluetooth, and if so, how do the speeds compare to a USB cable?

i believe that the bluetooth on the 8130 is crippled on the Verizon side. however its possible it is a software issue on the VZNav side though. I cant get mine through that program to tether, though all my other pearls are able to.
