Default tethered modem use

I've got my Pearl set up to use as a tethered modem and it works great. I would like to know if this goes against my minutes or data usage.

I was worried about this showing up as an additional charge with my Alltel 8830.
I was on a trip and used it for a modem, and the data usage was displayed on my bill, but no extra charges.
This obviously could vary carrier to carrier
