Default BlackBerry 8830 World Edition and different carrier

Please Login to Remove!

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to BlackBerry and would like to purchase one. I want to jump to Verizon from ATT; however the BB 8830 that they offer doesn't meet my preferences and would like to use one which is offered in Sprint (read: I want a black one not a sliver one). So I have couple questions:
1. Is it possible to unlock BB 8830?
2. If yes, can I use that unlocked BB 8830 from Sprint with Verizon?

Thank you in advance for you ansewrs!

you wont be able to use the 8830 Sprint on the VZW network. you can replace the case if you do a search online there are places that sell the black casing. the 8830 can be unlocked for GSM use internationally, but not in the US.

The 8830 is CDMA in US and GSM elsewhere, You cannot use it on either ATT or T-Mo as GSM is a totally different technology. Plus Verizon and Sprint currently only allow their own branded phones on their networks, i.e. no Verizon phone on Sprint and vice versa. That is slowly starting to change, but don't bet on being able to do it, even if it is the "same" model number.

Last released information is that the "network" does not support devices from other carriers.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry15800/7.5.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Not sure, but you can always buy a black housing to replace the silver vzw. I did, and it looks great.

The GSM Technology is the same. Its that the bands supported by the 8830 (900/2100Mhz) is NOT what the AT&T, T-Mobile, West, Rogers, or Fido networks use in North America ... they all use 850/1900Mhz for GSM/GPRS/EDGE (when it comes to 3G - then that is offered in Blackberry devices this side of the pond - then T-Mobile is the exception to those bands ... using 1700/2100Mhz).

I meant CDMA vs GSM in the US - different technologies.
