Default Blackberry Browser w/o BES?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all.

I’ve got a personal 7100g with Cingular. I hate the Cingular browser, and I would like to be able to use the Blackberry browser. After reading some posts here, I called Cingular to request that the Blackberry browser be enabled on my account.

After taking 5 minutes to get the rep to understand I wanted to change the entire browser, not the homepage, 45 minutes later after “click this… please hold… click that… please hold”.. I am told that the Blackberry browser option is no longer available.

I tell the rep that my work Berry (7290 w/bes) has both, she tells me the standard “well that policy is determined by your IT department blah blah blah..” I don’t bother telling her I am the admin for the bes.

Anyway, whats interesting is that under options xxx61664; service books, Blackberry Browser 4.0 is listed. However, under options xxx61664; browser, I am unable to choose Blackberry browser. Only Cingular. It almost seems like Cingular has the Blackberry browser locked out for some reason.

Is there any way to enable the Blackberry browser without using BES? Or enable it some other way?

Thanks

Now I may be dumb and totaly wrong at suggesting this but I think I read somewhere the browser is sent to the device when it is on BES. So maybe all you need to do is look through your BES files for the .cod file and install it on your BB with the Desktop Software.

well i talked to cingular again, went to level 2, then went to RIM. i was told by RIM that berry browser will not run without BES, so barring a hack, i suppose its not possible.

The BB browser is from the MDS service of a BES. As a BIS user you can still user the BIS browser. It is a HTMl browser.

BIS = Blackberry Internet Service
It used to be called the BWC (blackberry web client)

I'm not sure if cingular offers it or not, but you can log into the BIS/BWC from your desktop pc and send all the service books to your handheld. One may be the html browser. You can with Nextel and Telus now, but you couldn't a few months ago. I have no idea if cingular does but its worth a try.
