Default OMG...what just happened???

Please Login to Remove!

My hands are actually shaking...

Had an issue with my computer...and I reinstalled my BB desktop software. While attempting to make a back up of my 8703e which it wouldn't allow me to do I found that I couldn't type numbers on the device...so I couldn't unlock the phone.

I'm now sitting here with all my settings and all my data gone...poof...aaahhhhgggggggggggg!!!

I think I'm about to cry!!!

So, you typed the wrong password in 10 times??? Are you on a BES or did you enable the password feature on your own?

I guess I don't quite understand what you did. Were you trying to type the password on the device while connected to Desktop Manager? Usually DM just pops up with a password box and you type the same same password as you normally would right into the computer.

yes...i guess that would be the stupid thing i did...

i tried to cycle the phone on and off...even pulled the battery, but it still wouldn't let me type numbers while entering the password...tried the num lock and cap lock also.

when i tried making the backup the 'backup' and 'restore' buttons wouldn't highlight...so i shut the program down, and that's when i discovered the issue with my password.

when you type blackberry the device is asking you to make sure you are typing correctly and on purpose. the second time you type blackberry it erases handheld information

Yep...your data is gone. The alt key is used for typing numbers, btw.

O...k......so, something you did and was totally your fault you blame on the device and say "I miss my Treo?" I'm with Sith. I don't know what to say.

At least on the Treo if you happened to enter the password wrong, you don't just get the device wiped !!!!

Comparing the BB method to an ATM is like loosing all your funds in your bank account if entered the wrong PIN a few times.

IMHO, BB could have handled this a little better.

It's a security feature of the BB. What if someone picks up your BB and attempts to gain access to it? Isn't that the whole reason for the password? To protect your data? The BB did it's job and did it well. Also, I would guess that if you enter the wrong pin a few times at your ATM that you would be locked out of your account.

this was designed exactly as intended. its for security. if you forget your password, it asks you to type blackberry, then 5 more attempts, then blackberry to make SURE you are wiping the device.

Handled it better? You have to type the password wrong 10 times AND type the word BlackBerry twice and you are warned... So, what else should they do. Works perfectly if the device is stolen.

It's the same idea with the sim card...Get your PIN2 wrong 3x, and you have to go get a new sim card =)
(I did that the first night I had an old "the new cingular" samsung the day they changed over from att the first time)

It does suck to lose all your data, I don't deny that. But I'd rather my data lost than all my passwords and emails in the hands of someone who stole my phone

One of my Favorite features of my BB

I have more personal/private info than I should

I would shudder at the thought of not having that

I would be happy with it wiping with a warning at 5 attempts. I use the BlackBerry for reliability and security.
