Default Problem with Sent Mail on Gmail App

Please Login to Remove!

Hi folks - hoping anyone more familiar with the Gmail App can help me with this!

Installed on my new 8310 Curve, everything seems to work fine apart from the 'Sent Mail' folder, which seems to show a random selection of sent email - nothing at all since the middle of February and seemingly random emails before then.

What I've found is that all the missing sent items ARE there when I view the 'all mail' folder - they appear as from 'me' but have the correct details (who it was sent to) when I open the email.

Any ideas as to what's causing this? I use Outlook 2007 IMAP to read my Gmail on the computer, but if I log in to the Gmail web interface, ALL my sent email appears fine in the sent email folder.

Cheers,

Default BB curve

My 8310 incoming email is down for the last 4 days...RIMS is blaming GO Daddy...I was told to wait it will be fixed soon. Is this a common expwerience I have had my BB or 10 days, are disruptions like this the norm?

That has nothing to do with a gmail issue this OP thinks he has.

What did RIM actually say though? I highly doubt they blamed GoDaddy, unless it has to do with GoDaddy's push imap server for BlackBerry's having issues, then yes, I guess you could blame GoDaddy.

I've managed to establish that the Mobile Gmail App is having problems with emails sent from my IMAP account in Outlook, I just don't understand why, when the regular online Gmail interface shows these emails in the Sent Items folder just fine. I'd still appreciate any advice on that point, but I thought I'd also ask some general questions about getting my email set up with the Blackberry.

1) Is there a better way to access my gmail from the BB than with using the app. I tried adding the account directly to the BB using imap, and while it worked in terms of sending/receiving, simply reading the email in Outlook didn't seem to successfully sync to the BB. I'm at my computer most of the time, and the 'unread' emails were just piling up on the blackberry, even though they'd been marked as read on the server. Any thoughts on a fix to this?

2) I also have a couple of POP accounts that I'd like to use with the BB, but again I also access these accounts through Outlook. What I don't want is to have some emails on the BB and some on my PC - Outlook has the ability to leave messages on the server, does the BB have the same option?

Cheers

Wirelessly posted (8310; The Juggernaut)

1. No the read reconcile on gmail is not perfect, and is especially slow reconciling from web gmail back to the BlackBerry. I just think BIS is better. 2. No, your BlackBerry does not have the ability leave or delete messages on the server.

Thanks. I think in the case of Gmail, then, I'll keep using the Gmail app. The Sent Mail folder isn't how I'd like it but I think that's the fault of Outlook rather than the application itself.

In the case of POP, based on what you say about the blackberry's inability to leave messages on the server, are you saying that I simply can't have the same POP account configured on my computer and blackberry without the emails being split across the two devices, based on which receives the email first? This seems absurd to me, is there any alternative that I'm not seeing here?

No, I think you misunderstood me on 2. Your BB (and RIM) have no affect on leaving or deleting messages on the server. When RIM pushes the mail to your BB, it does not delete messages on the server.

Wanted to return (sort of) to the original point of this thread, and ask if anyone has any experience of sending mail from different accounts using the Gmail App. I've got Gmail on regular internet set up to access one of my POP accounts, which works fine (I have a separate label applied to these emails). If I REPLY to one of these POP emails with the BB through the Gmail App, it works fine, the 'from' field appears as from [Gmail address] on behalf of [POP address] in Outlook.

What I want to know is, is it possible to compose and send an email from scratch from one of these alternative accounts? There doesn't seem to be an option to do that from within the 'compose' screen.

Cheers,

I guess I am missing something now... which alternative accounts? Are you will in the Gmail Application, not BIS?

Sorry, my explanation is obviously a bit rubbish. In addition to my Gmail account, I have a couple of others that I'd like to check with the blackberry (my ISP and work email), that only work with POP access. Gmail has the ability to both send and receive emails from these accounts itself, so I can read them all from within the Gmail application. Figured I'd go this way if possible and avoid using BIS for POP email, so that I don't have to read the same emails twice (once on the PC, again on the BB).

As such, my question about appearing to send mail from one of these alternative accounts is related to the Gmail application, rather than the blackberry itself, but I thought I'd ask it here anyway rather than resort to Gmail discussion boards that seem to get few replies.

Cheers.

As with the web version of Gmail, the preferences are set one way or the other as to the "Identity". You can't toggle.

If you are using the BIS, you can toggle which "Identity" you send from.

Phranc, with the web version of Gmail, when I select to compose a new email I can choose which account the email will appear to come from. I have it set in the options that, when replying to an email, the reply appears to come from the same account that the original email was sent to (if that makes sense). I guess that's why it works when replying from the blackberry, all I'm wanting to do is to be able to choose when I'm sending a new email which of the accounts it appears to have been sent from, as I can do from the web version of Gmail.

Yes, I understand what you are trying to do. I mispoke about the web interface, I didn't know you could do that. Unfortunately the interface on the phone doesn't offer that option.

Okay thanks, guess I'm back to using the standard BB software and BIS to manage my accounts then - I don't mind using Gmail IMAP in this way as long as it WILL reconcile with the server eventually on read mail. I get quite a few e-mails over the course of the day and don't want to have to read them all twice! For POP, I guess I'm stuck with having to do this, unless anyone can correct me!

Cheers for all the advice.
