| Changing my BB model Please Login to Remove! Hi, I'm new to these forums, which I have only discovered today, though I have been using a BB (current model 7290) for over 2 years as a private (i.e. not corporate) user.
I have been considering changing to an 8800 and would like to know what is the best way to transfer all the data (esp. calendar info and saved texts/emails) from an old BB to a new one? Sorry if the answer to this is simple, but I have not been able to find anything obvious on my initial look through the pages on this site.
many thanks

| Use the Desktop Manager's Switch Device Wizard.

| x14 is right, but be aware switch device wizard sometimes doesn't work out so well for some people in some cases. Just in case, use Desktop Manager to backup the old BB so you can restore to the new one if the wizard does mess up on you.

| Okay, I have now bought myself an 8800. I am trying to back up my data from my 7290 using the BB Desktop manager, but have a Transfer in Progress dialogue box on my screen with no moving progress bar and an Estimated Time Remaining which is blank. It has been stuck with this unchanging dialogue box for nearly an hour.
Could it be because I don't have USB 2 on my laptop, so the transfer is slower? Even so, I would have thought it would register some movement after an hour.
Thanks

When you say no USB, do you mean your bb is not hooked up to your laptop with the wire?

First thing that comes to mind is password, but I expect you already know you must enter the password on the device as well as in Desktop Manager.
If the blackberry connects, I don't see why you would have usb issues otherwise. But that may be my ignorance.

Be sure to connect directly to the PC via USB, not through a USB hub.

| Thanks for these replies.
#7 -I mean my USB is 1.1 or whatever the pre 2.0 version is called.
#8 -I don't know anything about a password - I have never been prompted to enter a password on either my BB or or on the device manager on my computer when connecting them up.

| Managed to get it to work now ? further query Okay, it worked this time . I think my BB device manager is a bit temperamental - sometimes in the past it has failed to work several times when I have tried to transfer 3rd party software to the BB. I must just learn to be patient.
The contents of my BB has saved as a .ipd file. This seems to have evreything in it according to the dialogue box as I was doing the transfer, but as I cannot open the file, I cannot be sure. I suppose I must just trust to luck that it's all in there......

Good deal. I had a feeling that all was well given you indicated the blackberry connected ok.
I can't explain the hang when you tried before. A hard reset of the blackberry, reboot windows, and try again is what I would have tried in that instance if it had been me.

| If I think my device may have a software issue, would it be okay to still use the change device option?

| #15 - yes, it's my real name. Is that so unusual?
Despite my existing BB being on a T-Mobile contract and my new BB being locked to T-Mobile (and coming in a T-Mobile branded box), when I try to alter the details on the BB T-Mobile Internet Service for the device I want my email to be forwarded to, it doesn't recognise the PIN/IMEI of the new device (as taken from the box and the new BB itself). I've raised this with T-Mobile, but does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

John, the new blackberry, did you acquire it secondhand, or is it a brand new, never used device.
You say the PIN etc is not recognized, but it is probably the case that the previous user's BIS was never canceled if that is a used blackberry.
