Default Way to turn off dialing on 7520?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi. Thanks for being here.

I have a 7520 that I am using for email only, because I had so many problems with it as a phone. Nextel requires that the unit be a phone, so it got assigned a new phone number when I switched back to my old Nextel phone. It continually dials itself when it's in my pocketbook. I know there is a keys lock, and that a case might solve this problem, but being a realist about my own habits, I am wondering if there is a way to diable the dialing capability altogether? I'm incurring phone charges without meaning to!

I was really looking forward to being able to combine phone and PDA, but I just had so many problems with the blackberry, that I can't do it.

Thanks.

Joyce

My wife has a 7520 also, and from what I found there is no way to disable the phone altogether, however, you can disable the dial from Home Screen. When you do this you actually have to go to the phone icon to dial.

Do this: Click on the phone Icon, when you see the recent calls list, click the wheel again and scroll to options. Then go to General Options, you will see "Dial From Home Screen" click on it and change it to "No" then save your changes.

This should stop you from Dialing by mistake on the home screen. Hope it helps a little.

I just thought about this, came back to add it, and you beat me to it Dawg.

Call BB Web Support: 866-265-8305, they will tell you that the only REQUIREMENT on the BB is a Data Plan, not a phone plan.

What would happen if you uninstalled the phone via the application loader? I never tried it but it is a choice.

For the 7520, there is no option to remove the Phone Application. I tried it by removing the Phone Modules, the unit went nuts. I don't think I would recommend it.

Talking *data only price plan*

You DON'T have to have a cellular plan on the BlackBerry. But you do have to have a data plan. You should actually call 1-800-639-6111 and tell them that you need to change plans on your account. Be sure to tell them you want a data only price plan (which is free of charge). It might extend your contract a few months, but it is well worth it. If you have any questions about this issue, be sure to e-mail me or reply in this forum. Have a great day!

For Soapm : There isn't really a way to uninstall the phone feature from the BlackBerry through the application loader. You can, however, unistall programs like tasks, memo pad, brickbreak, password keeper, etc. It was a good idea though!

Data Only plan, yes they do have that, however, it is not free of charge. I've had that plan. It would work for you, but again, NOT free of charge.

On some models, you can uninstall the phone app.

If you have a BES, have your IT group create a no phone policy group on the bes and have them put you in it. That will disable the phone, except for emergency dialing. I would choose this over uninstalling the phone, since it gives you an extra safety/emergency option.

I am a BlackBerry technical support agent for Nextel and the data only price plan IS free. The data service is what you get charged for.

Whenever we set up an account on a data only price plan, the price plan IS completely free. The data service, however, is not. The 3mb e-mail and web plan is $34.99 and the unlimited e-mail and web is $44.99. If Nextel has been charging you for this service I would give our billing department a call and let someone straighten it out for you because the data price plan, if they have it set up right for you, should be free. If they have set it up wrong, they might give you a credit on what you shouldn't have been paying for.

It's not the data service that's free. The data service, depending on the one you have, ranges from $24.99 (web only) to $44.99 (unlimited e-mail and web). The data only price plan (which is basically a filler for unwanted cellular service) IS free. Like I was saying in my last post, if they are charging you for this service, you need to give our billing department a call. They should NOT be charging you.

We have a variety of data plans that you can purchase for you blackberry. There are 3 main ones that we use :

Web Service - $24.99 This is a web ONLY plan that you can get for your BlackBerry if you don't want to use e-mail on your phone.

3mb E-mail and Web - $34.99 This is BOTH e-mail and web. This plan is for 3mb of e-mail use and unlimited e-mail service.

Unlimited E-mail and Web - $44.99 This is for BOTH e-mail and. This plan is for unlimited e-mail and web service.

I can go into more detail or give you more information on our more expensive data plans. Have a great day!

The free part is the data only price plan (not the data plan) that we use as "fillers" for the cellular service. If you can't understand that from my other posts, I think you shouldn't even bother with replying to this message because chances are you don't understand this one either....
