In sincerely doubt you can insure an existing device.
Asurion has never allowed this.

Anything purchased within 30 days of that date would be eligible!!! Provided the equipment is in new condition
A manager can overide and add insurance in some cases but you must present device to them and it must work completely

Personally, I've had it with insurance. I'm pretty careful with my phones and have only had to use it once. I don't like the fact that 1.) you get a refurb unit and 2.) one drop of water or condensation and its not covered.

Which insurance are you using?
Asurion provides new units, not refurbs, *most* of the time.
Water damage is definitely covered. We've have users drop their phones in lakes, swimming pools, or even their washing machine.
Asurion replaces them without question.
In fact, on the claim form, they even ask if the device suffered water damage.

water and moisture are covered
Generally I skip insurance anymore through carrier. Use my renters it is cheaper and they send check so I can buy new device
AT&T asurion sends out refurbs most of the time, unless it is a big business acct

Whatever insurance Sprint used when I was with them. It sucked, refurb units were standard and if even one of the water indicators tripped, you were SOL.

That's nuts. Why even bother getting insurance if they don't cover accidental damage?
That's the whole point of having insurance to begin with.
You made the right choice by dumping them.

Wireless Phone Insurance | Wireless from AT&T, formerly Cingular
They cover water damage, but it's true, I may not be able to get insurance beyond 30 days. What a load. I had purchased 3rd party insurance through Safeguard, and they went out of business because AT&T started offering insurance. Hopefully they'll make an exception since it has not been possible to obtain insurance in the first place! I'll know in 5 days what their decision is.

So... Had trouble getting AT&T insurance. They put in an override which got denied. Called back in, and spoke with a supervisor, and they told me "you'll have insurance by the time you wake up". Unfortunately, I'm not still sleeping, because I still don't have insurance a day later. The rep I spoke with indicated that it does look like it got approved, and can take a couple days, so we'll see.
When I called back in, they explained that the insurance applied to new customers. What does this tell me? New customers are more important than existing ones. I don't think so. At any rate, if any of you are trying to get this new insurance, don't take NO for an answer! Get a supervisor and you'll get what you deserve. Insurance.
First step is to get the override process over with, so initiate that, which will take 3 to 5 business days to get your denial. Call back in and find out the status and get with a supervisor. They tried putting in another override for me, but I didn't want to ride the vicious cycle. Make sure to speak to a supervisor.

So this was a major fiasco to finally get approval. Here's the steps as they happened:
- Received email from Safeguard that they were exiting Device Protection 7/9
- Called in to AT&T to get insurance 7/10
- Override was put in that takes 3 to 5 business days
- Called in to AT&T to confirm decision (denied) 7/21
- Talked to supervisor who indicated I would have insurance by morning 7/22
- Called in to AT&T to confirm insurance 7/23, still no insurance
- Called in to AT&T to confirm insurance 7/25, still no insurance, spoke with supervisor who indicated I had a 95% chance to get insurance, and who would get back to me (never did).
- Called in to AT&T to talk with a supervisor to get resolution immediately 7/25 and spoke with a supervisor who indicated that it was not possible to get insurance because:
- Have to get get insurance within 30 days of purchasing phone (not possible)
- Have to apply for insurance within 30 days of June 2nd, when they started offering it on the Curve (didn't know until July 9th)
- Decision was in the hands of Assurion, AT&T had no say in decision, unable to talk to Assurion
- Called in to AT&T to confirm insurance 7/29, got insurance
