| At my university we have several types of monitoring systems for the server room. One of the important functions it holds, is that when the temperature reaches a certain threshold it fires off several alerts. One is a full HTML with incident description to a mailing list of our personal addresses, another is a simple SMS length email that goes to a mailing list with all of our SMS provider addresses so we receive SMS alerts as well, I believe the software is implemented in Perl. Whatever system you use to detect failure should be configurable to send an email straight to your RIM BlackBerry email address, as far as I understand the push email system will give you the fastest delivery available from a generic external source. You can also perhaps utilize a public IM service like AIM and run an IM client on the Berry to receive IM alerts, however I don't think it's reliable enough to justify the few seconds saved. |
