Remove the battery and put it back in.
Then try to delete the message if it isn't already gone.

I actually had this problem myself, just this morning.

I tried everything, short of a battery pull (although I did a Alt-Shit-Del reset). Then I saw penguin3107's suggestion to do a battery pull. Just doing that made the text message go away.

I am having this same problem and turning the phone off does delete the text message. My question is why does this only happen with text messages from my wife? seriously, nobody else but her!

You took the battery out and put it back in, then tried to delete the message?

Sorry,
I turn it off and remove the battery and the message does delete from my front screen.

What I am asking is why does it only happen with txt messages from my wife and no one else. just seems peculiar!

thanks for your response.

I have this issue only with the Vodafone Today theme, and only with alerts from ESPN. Battery pull clears it every time, but it is interesting that for some, the issue is only with specific senders.

It's not a problem.
That's just how long they take to boot up.

You shouldn't turn the device off, prior to removing the battery. That's not the same as pulling the battery while the device is on.

And I have no idea why only one specific contact would be a problem.
