Sometimes, I send a message and it takes a while to see the D meaning it was delivered. Is the D accurate, in that until I see it, the other person hasn't received the message? Thanks.

Your recipient could be out of range, or in a building that hinders reception. Or the blackberry is powered off. Just examples. I agree with JC. In my experience, you do not get the notification until the receiving handset receives the message.

Tim, correct. BB Data Plan is required for BBMessenger (except on a couple of carriers that will enable it on a lesser data plan, like the TMo (US) "feature enabler".

Is it supposed to be rather instantaneous, compared to SMS text which is sometimes delayed for unclear reasons? Or is BB Messenger also delayed at times. I've found it can be quite slow and have wondered what that means, since the recipient is often at home and it shouldn't be a reception issue.

BBM is instant if data is working as it should. SMS goes over the voice network, and thus can be delayed by congestion on the voice side. send an SMS at midnight on new years eve, then send a PIN/BBM right after.

So what is going on when I send a BBM, and it literally takes several minutes to get that "D" to show it was delivered? Some of my "conversations" get hindered by this time delay.

They could be on the phone, out of coverage, rebooting their BB...anything. Or it could just be network congestion. Remember "14 million BB subscribers."

I use BB Messanger a lot and usually it works very well. Sometimes it can take even some hours. Yesterday my son sent a message from abroad and I received 12 hours later! We have different Enterprise servers,in different companies Both devices were working well and both sent and received mails during that time.
Difficult to understand the problem

miclev, I don't understand that either... I have never had or heard of that kind of issue on BBMessenger.

And, I use it constantly and to communicate with users across the world.

I noticed the same thing...I can send a message via the bbmessenger and it can take several mins to several hours at times to be delivered even though it shows the checkmark for being sent successfully. I can send a sms and it gets there within a second almost everytime...the only benefit to the bbmessenger for me is being able to send more then 160 characters and sending pictures...
