Smile Unite... Wow - 05-08-2008, 10:35 PM

It appears it has been released to bell canada and is not wireless specific.

I loaded it up and was able to easily add my bes blackberry to unite.

Some things it adds

- a download manager that allows you to grab files off of the computer running the software. If you are on the local wifi, it downloads to sd card. Otherwise anything over a 1 meg you have to use a usb cable.

- a new browser option - this is key to getting around my bes and its layers and filters... make unite default browser and I am using my local home internet and not the saturated work connection.

- calendar and contact catergories that sync in real time with all devices attached.

- make any pop or imap, into direct push via unite software (watered down bes able to run locally on xp or vista).

- It works and it is free!

Hooray!... this is the holly grail! this is actually better then os 4.5 imho

Do all devices have to share the same calendar and contacts, or can you select to only share a certain category, etc? Are the calendars merged, or are they partitioned in some way where you can see what is your calendar and what are events on another person's calendar?

on the device, the first option is which calendar you are in. The shared calendar or "name" is always "Unite". If you make a new appointment on UNite, all users will instantly get it.

You can have seperate calendars, but category....

Like I said, I am on bes and now unite at the same time and it is nice to have a personal side so i can port it all over...

however, i do not see a place to import from outlook or any other import options in the unite software.

still is awesome though.

I just tried enabling html email support, the sql command went through, waiting for my vista machine to finish rebooting remotely.

So sounds like a home-based BES for all intents and purposes. Neat stuff!

well keep in mind its designed for families. you can limit the use of certain phones, keep them from going over minutes, block features (text/mms/browser/etc), share calendar/contacts with everyone, keep tabs on what certain phones are doing, etc.

I did a wipe with jl cmder but it still left the IT policy on there and locked my firewall. I had to put a blank policy in there to get rid of the IT policy, but my firewall is still locked. When I did the wipe on my 8330 I didnt get the reset to factory settings option I just got wipe........

Why not use Google Sync with a Google Calendar? And if need be, use the Outlook sync to get your Google Calendar and Outlook with the same data?

Ya I would make sure it's the latest one and try again, after the process it will do a wipe and finish with a battery pull.
