I've tried every IMS available for my BB7290 and none worked on the Optus network with the exception of IM+ (http://www.shapeservices.com/eng/im/BLACKBERRY/).

Optus blocks the necessary ports (1863, 443) and will not open them.

IM+ has both a BES and WAP version of their software for a one-time fee. Software works on Jabber, Yahoo, ICQ, MSN and AOL.

Using the WAP version of the software, the settings are:
WAP Gateway IP: 202.193.83.152
WAP Gateway Port: 9201
WAP APN: blackberry.wap

I spent quite a bit of time trying to get a client to work. So, I hope this is helpful.

Does this still work? I've tried setting this up today, but selecting the Trial option (After entering the WAP details) in IM+. It says Redirect connection... at the bottom for a few minutes. It finally says Connect error: null.

I'll try again tomorrow or in a few days, but if anyone else on the Optus network is using this, then please let me know.

Cheers,
Craig.

Actually, it's the gateway IP address that's wrong above.

It should be 202.139.83.152 (Note the class B, the 3 and 9 are the other way around.)

Regards,
Craig.

I was able to get them to open the ports, so to speak, by having them enable general GPRS for my phone, not just Blackberry. Now I can connect on any port and run SSH clients, IM's etc.
