Default Charge to use Verichat??

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys I have looked around on the forums and I am still a little confused. I just got a new blackberry 7520 and my work has the internet package on it so it is unliminated usage. I am with Telus in Canada. I just downloaded verichat, now does the application run off that internet package that is included for unliminated usage or am I going to be charged more airtime for using this? I know the internet browser I can use as much as I want because it is in the package we get but will this messenger be outside cost? Any help would be great. Thanks.

So this application runs off the internet usage on my phone right? Not of airtime like the mike or the phone? Just want to make sure I can leave this program on and not get charged since I do have unliminated net usage. Anyone here on Telus for Canada and have this with the unliminated net package?

Verichat runs over the network TCP/IP stack, either directly to the network, or possibly through your BES (over MDS) if you are on a corporate network.

Either way, it's the same data as anything else you do from your Blackberry, and the carrier has no practical way of tracking Verichat-specific usage.

The only caution is that if you don't have an unlimited plan, leaving Verichat on all the time will increase your data usage, since it's constantly communicating with the Verichat server over the air.

Wirelessly posted (ATTW/Cingular 7290 (BWC): BlackBerry7290/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

I've got a 7290 on Cingular(Blue) on a Unlimited BIS/BWC plan. I've been charged for data for any third-party program. VeriChat demo and BBToday's Weather module are two that I found racking up excess data charges.

E-mail, BB-Messenger, and BB-Browser, and <cough> mMode are the only ones that fall under the plan.

As with all plans, carriers, and tech support, YMMV!

yeah, i've heard they charge BB users who use the TCP APN settings for application usage... kind of lame, imo (especially with the price they're charging for the add-on plan)

If you signed up with Telu$ under the "NEW" unlimited plan contract, you will get a nasty surprise on your Telu$ bills, there IS a cap on the New unlimited plan, you are best to call Telu$ and see what plan you have, "old unlimited plan or the New unlimited plan"
One phone call could $ave you big money.

There was a post here a few week back outlining this in detail.

I realize this question has been answered already for the most part, but I have been a Telus Mike Blackberry client since April with the unlimited plan.

I can verify directly that VeriChat and any other 3rd party applications do NOT rack up any extra charges. As for the data cap (50 mb?) with the new unlimited plans Iím not sure how much data I use per month, so Iím not sure if you will go over.

this is true for many of us Telus users on the old unlimited plan BUT anyone who signs on to the NEW Unlimited Blackberry plan will be hit with $10.00 / meg charge once you go over the 50 meg per month on the new plan that kicks in July 4 2005.
The way i keep tabs on my email side is to check your web mail and keep resetting your 25 meg mail box. This works well for the mail side as for the verichat and BBtoday applications there is no app to keep tabs on the data transfer which is also charged to you as data usage the same as email and web browser.

just as a caution, for the first few months users on the Telus system should turn off the verichat and other applications that run and keep updating in the background, instead of using valuable data charges that couild hurt when they get their next Telus bill.

also when in doubt, call Telus Blackberry Support, they will fill you in on how you will be charged in the next few months.
