BlackBerryForums has the BEST members around and the applications below were designed just with you in mind! We hope you will enjoy using these new homescreen application shortcuts directly from your trusty BlackBerry... three applications in all.

One for the wap.BlackBerryForums.com site, another to the regular BlackBerryforums.com site and another directly to the FAQ site! And, each of the apps are under 10kb in size, so small they would never crowd your BB device memory (two of the apps are actually under 5 KB).

Check it out, and ENJOY!

TO DOWNLOAD Over The Air, take your BB browser to these links (easiest way is to right click on the links below and "copy shortcut" and paste into an email to yourself):

For Desktop Manager > Application Loader installs, get both the ALX and COD files:

Special thanks to BBF member simon-hain for his application development, testing and patience in designing and troubleshooting these. Also to several of the moderators of BBF for testing and feedback on these applications before release-especially MrKyoo and John Clark. I'll give my personal business a shameless plug for designing the icons... Master Image.

**DISCLAIMER CRAP: All the apps have been tested and retested. Do not load the OS4.2+ apps to a device running OS 4.1 and lesser. BlackBerryForums will not be responsble for devices not working as a result of installation of any of the above applications.

How'd you get it so your BB looked like the Leopard OS for Mac?

I missed this:
(load only to OS 4.2 and higher devices ONLY;

...and consequently killed my phone. I really need it for work... Ironically, I was going to do a backup tonight as I added a ton of autotext, emails, sms messages, and browser favorites this week.

Is there any way I can do a backup without completing reformatting/wiping it clean??

Please help!!

Unfortunately, there is no way to backup the device. You can reload the OS but the data is gone. If you're on a BES your data will come back during activation. If BIS only, sorry.

I don't know of a way. I wish we had one, it would be a very popular tool. I would point you to the JL_cmder application, but I don't think it will work here to "save" the device and your data, but it will certainly "save" your device to reload the OS again.

I'm sorry, again. We have the warning on this posted very conspicuously for this reason.

I did much testing of these and bricked my old 7290 multiple times before getting these ready for launch. The error that it causes is not recoverable beyond a full reload of the OS. There is no way to get to the data. I wish we had better news for you.

How do I get the links to download on my Blackberry? I can get to the links on my desktop computer, but I cannot get to the links on my Blackberryfor an over the air download.
Incidently, I have a Blackberry 8700 which originally had verson 4.1 OS, but is now running 4.2 over BES. I have read the warnings about loading the wrong versions of the shortcuts and want to make sure that I download the correct version. I presume that I can download the OS 4.2 and over version.

Use the "OTA" links for downloading directly to your BB. Yes, if you have OS 4.2, use the 4.2 and higher links.
