I crushed my old blackberry last week and need to send it back to sprint, for insurance replacement. The issue that is I can't get it to sync to a PC as the plug is broken on the device as well, and the screen is half broken. I don't feel comfortable sending it in with my info on it.
Any ideas what I can do? I am on a BES but it lost connection as soon as it was broken, so I can't wipe it from there.

The best you can do is menu>Options>Security>General Settings>Wipe handheld.

Thanks for the tip... I have been trying that... I can get to the security options screen with some work and trial and error... but when I get to it, i can't use the menu button, to pull up the wipe option. Bad news.

Well talk to your BES admin. If the device still works you can initiate an emergency call (please disconnect before it starts ringing) it will register on the network so that you can send the kill command from the BES. Otherwise, I don't see another way.

I can get it all the way to the wipe handheld screen, I select to wipe handheld and there is one more question I can't see how to answer.... every time I hit the trackball, no matter how I try it says cancelled... any idea what I should select there? I can't figure it out.

I was able to change the password on the device, so it is locked.... I think that should work. Don't you?

I couldn't type 'blackberry' in to wipe the device.... those keys wouldn't work...
so I locked the device with a password that I could type.

Just enter the wrong password 10 times and the device will wipe.

I guess the password will have to be enough.

Wait you locked the phone and have now entered it wrong 20 times? Something is very strange with that. It should wipe after 10.

Last resort.... take big hammer and smash into tiny pieces... they will never get you're info then!!!!

When you are entering the wrong password, make sure it has the same number of characters as required under the IT Policy - ie, the required password length is set to 6, so your incorrect password must have min 6 characters, anything less and the number of incorrect attempts won't increment

I entered like 40 wrong passwords of around 8-12 characters in length and it still won't wipe.... it just has me re-enter after I hit the return button.
I will have to live with just the password to lock the device when I send it back.

If you re sending it back to the carrier then you will probably be ok.... If selling on eBay prolly not....
