I got a Curve with AT&T today, my first non-Verizon BB, and when I tried to set up Yahoo messenger, I got a message my device wasn't enabled for it. So I called tech support and they sent me a tutorial on setting it up, I have to download a mobile IM client. The tutorial also explained IMs are charged as SMS messages.

Is this new or just an AT&T thing? When I was with VZW, I had Yahoo IM and it was just part of the data package.

I think the only IM client that uses text is OZ. If you are using JiveTalk or any other third party app it uses data. The Tech was wrong.

I'm on ATT and I don't use any of the IM clients they provide. I suggest investing in JiveTalk...best IM software on the market. IM's only use data with JiveTalk.

JiveTalk is most definitely worth the money.
