Default noob question regarding email delivery

Please Login to Remove!

I don't know much about blackberries and I have a question about how mail is delivered to the device. Is all your mail just dumped into one area, or can it be delivered to different accounts? For example, if you have 3 different pop3 accounts configured via BIS, will your mail be delivered to each account by itself, or is it all dumped into one large inbox that you have to sort through? I guess what I'm asking is, can you create a mailbox for each account so that mail is delivered to the right account vs having all of it dumped into one location?

BIS sets up a separate message folder for each email address that you configure. There is also a MAIL folder which contains the mail of ALL addresses. There is only one copy of each message on your phone - the individual message folder contains the message and there is a reference to that message in the aggregate message folder. If you delete one, it is gone form both.

You can configure up to 10 email accounts on a BlackBerry and each of those accounts would get their own mailbox icon. All emails would then get dumped into that one mailbox called Messages but you would still have copies going into the individual mailboxes (but not duplicates). Having said that, I guess you should be okay. Just don't forget to hide the main mailbox and rearrange the other mailboxes to your liking.

Good luck!

EDIT: I think I'm slow today... Fonejunkie won the race...

On a side note, can someone clarify for me how mail is delivered through BIS? From what I've gathered so far, the blackberry device contacts a blackberry server every 15 minutes and pulls your pop3 emails from it (if configured), is this correct? If not, let me know. Also, is it possible to change how often the device communicates via BIS to download pop3 mail? For example, could you knock it down to 10 minutes or increase it to say 20? Perhaps I should specify that these pop3 accounts are gmail accounts.

With GMail on pop, it's relatively instant.

More info on how BIS polls for email > How does BIS Poll for Email

And this would also help you out later on > HOW-TO: Prevent G-mail "Sent Items" from being sent to your handheld.

For pop3 accounts, can those be set up directly on the device itself, or do you still have to go through the BIS website?
