Default Ins on AT&T PDA's

Please Login to Remove!

Not sure if this is posted anywhere, but AT&T just started offering Ins on most of their PDA's through Asurion on 6/2/08. It's $4.99 a month and $150.00 to have it replaced.

$4.99 per month, plus $150 for the replacement?

So after a year, you have paid $60.00 + 150.00 = $210.00?

I'll keep self-insuring and leave the money in my bank rather than letting Asurion have it. That is a rip off. But to each his own, of course.

O.K. it sounded good if your device is lost or stolen or broken within the year and you are not eligible for an upgrade and you don't have the money to pay retail price. It's like health Ins, You pay $40 to $60 a week (in my case $60 for the family) and it's not beneficial to you until you need it (that's a rip off as well).

Like you said: "To each his own".

Just wanted to get that out to the forum.

I understand, but insurance on low cost electronic devices such as these is such a real ripoff, and one of the largest moneymakers for companies such as Asurion.

What would happen if you put the same money aside each month?

I guess my now thinking was over taking my long term thinking. I totally agree with you. Just was focusing on that "What if" and if the "What if" happened before I got to save for the retail price. I'm a woman, and SOMETIMES we spend unnecessarily.

haha, I know what you mean, and I know such an insurance product is the right thing for some people.

I just wanted to present an alternative view on the matter. Even worse the "service plans" you get at places like Best Buy, which is nothing more than pre-paid insurance.

I called to cancel my insurance about 5 minutes ago (that I just put on their yesterday) and I found out that it was never added (although the person on the phone said it was). I guess someone else felt I didn't need it that's why it did not go through.

Thanks for a different perspective on the situation.
