I wasn't sure if this was a BB problem or Google problem, so I wanted to start here.

I'm the admin of a Google Group (http://www.memphisfirescanner.com/alert) which acts as an incident notification 'system' for incidents that occur within the city limits of Memphis, TN.

The messages that are sent out are usually less than 140 characters because some people receive their alerts via text message through their cell phone's email address.

Some people are reporting that they are not receiving the alerts via text message. Upon investigation, it was determined that if the alert is sent via a gmail address through BIS, the message is not received. If the message is sent through the gmail app on the BB, the messages are received via text message.

Any ideas as to why the messages are received when sent from a gmail address using the gmail app and not a gmail address using BIS? Clear as mud, right?

Cell phones don't have email addresses. You can get an sms txt sent through that system otherwise cell phones can get emails. You mention two ways. So do you send out emails or sms messages? If the former do the people not getting them have their BB configured to get gmail?

I'm not sure I understand your reply, but some phone carriers do have email addresses assigned to phones in order to receive text messages via email. Cellular South, my carrier, can receive text messages at your10digit#@csouth1.com.

In order for subscribers to the email list to receive an alert, we send one email to the Google Groups address and it Kblasts' the email out to the subscribers. Some of the people subscribed are not using smartphones, so they receive the message via text message, usuing the carrier assigned email address for the phone.

If we use a BIS gmail account, it's not received, if the message is sent through the gmail app, it's received on the phone.
