I have a Verizon blackberry 8830 that is about 6 months old. In the last couple of days, the trackball works, but when you depress it to select something, it does not work. The back key also is not working. Anyone encounter anything like this, and if so, what was the fix?

Take it apart and use can air to remove the dust bunnies!

I took the 4 screws out, and am afraid I'll break this trying to get it apart. Any tricks on how this comes apart?

Thanks for the link. I took it apart and blew the dust out. Not too bad. Didn't do the trick. Whats weird that I forgot to mention is that in addition to the back key and trackball not working correctly, the Q, A, ALT on the left side of the keyboard doesn't work as well as the P, DEL, and Return on the right side. This device does not looked to have been dropped or anything. Any thoughts?

...i assume then that this was not purchased new? If it was purchased used, then you really can't tell for sure what type of damage was done to it by the prior owner(s). Having said that, I would bring it to your local VZW store and have them look at it. If you have insurance, they will most likely switch it out for you.

Do you carry it in your pocket?

Did it get wet?

This was purchased new, and it is for a sheriffs deputy. Not sure if it got wet, or if it is carried in the pocket, but seems weird that the only keys the do not function are the far right and far left row of keys, in addition to the track ball select feature and go back button. The device is only 2-3 months old.

I'm having similar issues with the trackball not clicking and the back key not working.

I do carry the BB in my pocket. Is this a no-no?

Back up your Blackberry, bring it to Verizon, and they will switch it out with a new/refurbished model which you can then restore the data to.

...i wouldnt recommend it without the use of at least a sleeve or some kind of protective cover. you run the risk of scratching it or dust getting under the keypad.
