Default spilled coffe on top of Blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

My cup of coffee spilled on my Blackberry. I took off the back and battery blowed dried it for approx 5 min. and nothing....I am assuming it will take time to dry. However, dont know if it will work again since I take cream and lots of sugar in my coffee, which I am assuming will get sticky inside somewhere. Any suggesstions? Thanks

Wirelessly posted (my new touch button BB)

Let it dry longer

You can try disassembling completely and using denatured alcohol to clean it

the and nothing implies that you tried to turn it on again after? terrible terrible idea. let it try for a few DAYS and see where you get. its likely that you need at LEAST a new battery after turning it back on. possible a new device (read probably)

Wirelessly posted (by hammer and chisel)

I have heard about putting it in a cup of rice also, that won't get rid of the sticky tho

I have a U shaped desk at work and keep my drinks off to one side, so when I do knock it over, it won't get my important stuff. You'll probably do the same from now on too.

I fixed one that had coffee spilled all over the keyboard. However, I removed the battery right away and then disassembled it and cleaned the keyboard with alcohol. The display can't be cleaned, though, so if it got coffe in it...it's likely permanantly discolored. However, if you remove the display from the circuit board and clean everything with alcohol you may be able to save the device.

I had to learn this the hard way. Ever since I pretty much ruined a two month old laptop I keep my drinks as far away as possible from any electronics and important paperwork.

Unfortunately I'm unable to provide any suggestions or solutions in this case but I still hope you'll get your device up and running again. Good luck!

Disassemble as much as possible. Soak in denatured alcohol for a few hours. Let air-dry for at least 3 days. The battery will probably be shot. The device has a 50% probability that it might turn on. If everything works, you're on borrowed time at best. Backup your data (if possible) and still plan on getting a new device, or secure a replacement on eBay.

That's not been my experience, but....

Just don't soak the screen in alcohol. I just used a tooth brush and rubbing alcohol on everything and then used a little compressed air to dry it. Good as new. However, mine did work before cleaning. Most of the coffee was in the keyboard.
