Default Auto Email Open leading to more junk mail.

Please Login to Remove!

Hello- on my 8820 when I receive some emails once I have unlocked the keypad the email is automatically opening.

This means the junk emails are being opened too and the trickel of junk is turning into a flood- I expect its because I'm confirming interest by opening their emails.

Any thoughts on how I could stop this?

What mechanism do you think the spammers are using to confirm your 'interest'? Read receipts are not commonly used, and text emails certainly won't contain anything that can phone home. Do you have HTML email (I don't know about your model)?

1. You cannot set your email not to auto open once you remove it from your holster within the first 20 seconds or so. If you wait about 30 seconds, it will not auto open

2. Filter your spam at the email server level. Once it gets to your BB, you can't (although there is one BB spam filter from AntAir, if you want to check that out). Still, killing your spam BEFORE it gets to your BB is the key.

Good luck, and welcome to the BBForums.

If you are using the carrier supplied email address, then you are open for as much spam as you can get since it is totally unfiltered, AFAIK.

Not likely. The BB doesn't support HTML.

Get some server-side (or even further upstream) spam filtering.

That could be true of opening spam on your PC, but email on the Blackberry is shown in plain text, so if the email has an image, it will not be retreived and thus no notification is sent to the spammer.

what if he left the "send read receipts" option to 'yes'?

That would assume the sending email address is valid, which the majority of the time it isn't.
