Opinions: 8330 or 8830?

I'm new to these forums but thought I'd throw this question out. Have any of you had both the 8330 or 8830, and if so, which one did you like better? I know there are lots of places to find opinions but was just wondering if any of you have had both. I'm getting an upgrade from my old 8700 and trying to decide which is better. I like the camera on the 8330 but I can't really tell from the pictures which one looks better. Any opinions welcome and thanks.

AT&T does not have the 8830 nor the 8330.

You will get from AT&T the 8800, the 8300 or 8310.

Welcome to the BBForums.

I'm going to be switching over to Verizon for my new plan.

Go play with them and see which one feels better. If you travel to different countries a lot then the world phone is the clear choice, if not and you like the camera and the smaller form factor then the Curve is better. If it does not matter either way it will be more about which key board you like better.

Curve, Curve, Curve. Unless you need the device to work overseas...

I travel a lot but it's 99% in the US, so overseas use is a non-issue for me.

Go with the Curve, the size is perfect, the camera is a nice feature and it definitely has the "cool" factor :-)

Definately go to your local store and try them out. The 8830 is a great device BUT the backlight is horrible and makes the keys harder to read rather than easier. I played with a 8330 one day while getting my 8130 serviced, and I like the 8330, but the keyboard wasn't as good as I hoped compared to my old 8703e. So definately try them out for as long as you can at the store, and if Verizon is the same way where you live as they are here, you will be in the waiting queue for atleast a hour.

Totally agree. The 8830 is a solid phone for the most part, mine broke 6 times but that's besides the point. If you don't plan on doing serious over seas travel, I'll bet you will enjoy the Curves keyboard better.

The 8830 is slightly wider than the 8330 which I didn't like either. I perfer the slightly thicker body instead.

The 8330 can send/recieve pix/flix, view youtube and stream XM radio with Orb and Uxm or Usirius.

The 8830 can't do any of those things. If you're looking for more of a personal phone I'd do the Curve.

The keyboard on the Curve is also beautifully spaced. I had trouble typing quickly on the 8830 due to the slippery no spaced keys. You get yourself into doing a lot of verticle pressing, you cant get sloppy while typing on the 8830.

Hope that helps...and if you couldn't tell...Curve for me!(y)

CURVE! Deffinately...

phatty 06-12-2008 11:32 AM

Thanks for the info guys, I was leaning towards the Curve and now you guys confirmed it for me. Yes, it's for work, but it will be my personal phone also.

Definitely Curve. It rocks over the 8830 unless you use it totally for business reasons. It also has more memory than the 8830.

Whichever has the features you want/need. Try out the keyboards as well.
There's no one-size-fits-all BB or else we'd all be using it. ;-)

If your switching to Verizon, you'll have 30 days to try the device or exchange it for a different one.

ndub33 06-12-2008 04:45 PM

I've used the GSM equivilants to both (8320 and 8800), and would give the 8320 a very slight edge, mainly due to the camera and the overall dimensions of the device (The 8320 is slightly shorter and narrower). Both are great though, and I don't think you could make a bad chocie here.

volleyman 06-12-2008 05:12 PM

I'll have to put my vote in for the Curve also...

phatty 06-19-2008 07:53 PM

My curve came today. Good choice I think.

Agreed. Internal memory is a big decider.
