i did a search and did not find this on the site:

is there a s/w fix or something that can be added to a message that

will let me know when a message sent was read by receiver?

this functionality proves useful in corp environment on the smaller "interactive pagers"

Thx for any response, links..

Two options:

a) use BlackBerry Messenger, or;
b) use Cingular's Xpress Messaging to send "ipages" to people with the 950/957 on Cingular Interactive (Velocita Wireless).

For email, try this thread: Did you know? Delivery Confirmation on BB

"Did you know that if you type in <confirm> in the subject line (must precede actual subject) that you will get a confirmation email back as soon as its delivered to the recipients BlackBerry?"

Not sure if this helps but you can get a delivery confirmation message by typing <confirm> in the subject field of your message. Must have the <> around confirm.

Does not specifically have to be a @carrier.blackberry.net address, can be any email. Once you do this you will receive an email message that has this info:

Your message:

TO: [email address]
SENT: Thu Aug 11 01:16:02 2005
SUBJECT: <confirm>

has been delivered to the recipient's BlackBerry Handheld.

The recipient must have a Blackberry.

Did you call Cigular and add Xpress Messaging? It is a feature they have to add and you get an xpress messaging user name.

yes but they did not provide a username...i guess i need to call back asap..
there really is not alot of documentation, that i can find, that would tell a new user what to do to get the functionality..
perhaps someone could go a fact sheet on it and post it, or ask mark rehjon to post a faq or something..

will let you know how it goes with cingular..i hate calling any kind of Cust Svc Support...

Wait a minute!! We used to have 957's and we could get a "d" (delivered) which turned into an "r" (when read) when sending PIN to PIN. We upgraded to 7290's, and still get the "d" for PIN to PIN message delivery, but really want to be able to see an "r" when the message is read. I had heard the xpress messaging (from cingular) would give us this capability, but I was told that it is NOT available for the 7290's. Is this true? If BB Messenger will accomplish this, where can I get it?

BTW - I've been on hold with Cingular waiting for a BlackBerry rep for over 30 minutes!!!

I just got the express messaging piece of it working...I am going to ask Mark Rehjon, one of the forum admins to put together a "how to" for adding this service.

In Xpress messaging i does show the D's and R's for delivery then read..

Wow, that would be great!! I finally was told that Cingular's xpress messaging service is only available for 950's, 957's, 6280's and 7280's, and that Cingular doesn't support BlackBerry Messenger. But if you're using a 7290 and have Cingular as your provider, I'd like to know how you were able to get the xpress messaging to work, cause that's what we have.

Thanks!!

There isnt a whole lot of documentation anywhere that tells the user how to do this. I searched on this site, pinstack.com, cingular, google, rim site, and no clear cut instructions were provided anywhere. I have asked one of the moderators to assist in putting together a "how to" guide for adding this service.

The reason is that Xpress Messaging is still in beta and it is VERY UNRELIABLE. Beware! I use it to communicate with a lot of users on the 950s and 957s and messages go "missing" from time-to-time.
