Angry An ignored call is not a missed call!

Please Login to Remove!

This is one of the very few things I dislike about my Pearl (and the non-crackberry phone I had before it, btw). When a call comes up and I choose the "ignore" option, it SHOULD NOT TELL ME I MISSED A CALL.

Freaking drives me crazy. A missed call means a call came in and I didn't respond to it, so I might've been away or some such and therefore MISSED it.

An ignored call means I SPECIFICALLY RESPONDED to the call by pressing the "leave me alone I don't want to talk to that person right now so just IGNORE the call, *(%#$#$%@!" button.

Does ANYBODY know any way to configure this stupid thing to stop alerting me every time I ignore a call? It's driving me bat#$% insane. I've searched forums and google to no avail.

Please somebody tell me there's a way.

Perhaps. I only drink tea though. Well, rarely a coffee. But I do drink a lot of tea and there's caffeine in it. Still though, this just drives me crazy. Like most folks here, I use my phone a lot. I get and place a lot of calls. I get and send a lot of text msgs. And I use it to get e-mail while I'm away from my desk.

It just happens at least a few times *every day* that I am in the middle of something else and cannot take a specific call. I know who the calls are from and am pretty confident what the call is about. I can't always interrupt what I'm doing to talk about what's for dinner with my wife or how my weekend was with my Dad, etc. I know I can call/text them back later when I'm not in the middle of something. But that stupid alert keeps making me think I've actually missed a call when I haven't. There's no point even having the alert at all if it's factually inaccurate. I'd just as soon turn it off completely.

Anyway, I'll look into the decaf teas out there. Thanks

Why not simply ignore the call, then press Send, and End again, thus clearing the alert?

Default That's what I do when I remember to.

Generally, if I'm ignoring a call it's because I'm right in the middle of something and interrupting it would be problematic. I try to get back to what I was doing as quickly as possible with as little interruption in the flow as possible (I'm a developer and there's lots of times I should probably just turn it off when I am hyper-focused on a particular item). I try to remember to hit red/green/red to clear it but don't always.

And really, it drives me batty more because I *am* a developer and it's just designed wrong. At best, the alert is mis-labeled. It should be labeled "unanswered calls" not "missed calls". The function it's supposed to serve, however, is to alert you of *missed* calls. It's faulty by design. I want to find the developer or project manager or PHB who decided it had to be the way it is and give them a clear, well-reasoned explanation of the faultiness of the current design. (okay, not really...I just want to slap them.)

Outside of this issue, some occasional random flakiness, and a "shuffle" algorithm in the media player that is woefully inadequate, I love my BlackBerry.

Heck you wouldn't even have to turn it off, just set the profile to "Off" and then they would truely be missed calls, but I hear what your saying.

...I just set it to "silent" and turn it over (or just place it out of sight, in my pocket, etc.) and then it doesn't bother me. The problem arises when there are certain calls, msgs, etc. I need to get that are important enough to respond to then and there. (You know, like when Al Gore calls. )

This problem is no big deal, compared to the "missed call" icon that comes up and you can't remove it, except for a complete OS reinstall. That is a huge problem, and needs to be improved by Blackberry ASAP.

Ummm... So it's reminding you that you really need to return that call from your wife that you ignored a couple of hours ago. Maybe I'm missing something here...

Yeah, I bet thats why they did it like that. So you remember to return the calls you ignored. But it annoys me too. Anytime I ignore a call I'm either in class or on the phone already. And I usually return it immediately as well.

Any clues?

Yeah, but I don't need the icon to remind me. I can hit the green button to see all the calls I didn't answer at any time. The icon just makes me think I missed a call when I didn't.

I'll yield to the point that this is totally a big nothing issue when compared to the missed call icon that never goes away. Thankfully I've not experienced that one.
