Default summary/clarification 4.5, docs to go, eoffice

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, I know. Supposedly OS 4.5 is coming soon, but I'm new these forums and it appears the 4.5 release has been promised, and many have been waiting, for a few years now.

I, like many, would like to view, modify etc, word docs etc., and am wondering if I should go with eOffice, or do as some of the prior threads indicate, wait for 4.5 and docs to go (which I've used in the past and love). But some of those prior threads were from '07, and people back then said they'd wait till 4.5 and docs to go, which of course was thought to be soon released. Here we are in June '08 and still wondering......

Thus, I'm asking if someone can/will give us all a succinct summary of what's happening, whether we should wait for docs to go (vs. eWord) etc.

Much appreciated, Sincerely.

ok, for June 20, 2008: Do what you need to do. If you need word editing capability now, you need eOffice. Or upgrade to OS 4.5 now. It is according to your need. eOffice now, or OS 4.5 now.

Summary: Only Vodafone.de has released OS 4.5 officially, and it is available for your device, with DocsToGo, and limited editing ability. If you don't want that version of the OS 4.5, and want to wait for a later version, no one can tell you definitively when, or what carrier will be next. There is rumor that June 24 is the target date for some. It appears BIS 2.5 will be implemented next Sunday evening. I would think OS 4.5 would be more widely available by then, but that is all a guessing game.

But DocsToGo is officially available now through the Vodafone.de release.

Good luck.

I noticed today that AT&T, as of yesterday (6/20) has Desktop Mngr ver 4.5 available for install. Does this in any way portend the coming of OS 4.5?

Nope. DM and your handheld OS are two entirely separate things.
