Default 7520 not aloud in Parliament building (Canada)

Please Login to Remove!

I was visiting Ottawa last week and was surprised to discover that my Blackberry wasn't aloud inside the centre block of the Parliament building.

When I passed through security they asked if my Blackberry had direct connect (2-way radio). After answering yes, they informed me that they were not aloud in the building and I had to leave it with security before I could enter.

I asked why out of curiosity and I wasn't able to receive an answer. Does anyone else know why? Has anyone else had their Blackberry denied entry somewhere?

My theory -- couldn't you just push a button and broadcast whatever conversation was being held to another device.... but then my theory falls apart -- you could do the same with any phone.

Only thing I could think of is that a lot of people leave their speaker on with direct connect phones, the beeping and conversations would echo down the halls. I always have mine on vibrate and do direct connect through my head set or handset, never through the speaker phone.

Any other ideas?

My best guess is the NEXTEL signal interfers with some sort of signals inside the building. When I put my i530 too close to a computer screen i can somethime hear some interference. Thats my best guess.

Oh yes... Americans never cease to amaze me. Nothing to do with signal, better yet, nothing to do with Nextel... all to do with the 'paging' nature of DC (Mike in our Canadian case).

Corey-
You never do miss a chance to "slam" someone do you? Forget the fact this is an open forum to converse about ideas and observations. To freely exchange ideas. I guess all of us "Americans" should run all our posts by you before posting so we can continue to "Amaze" you, in your own words.

PS. I could be a foreign national living in the US for work now, couldn't I?

Yeah I think that comment was a little over board as well, Corey we dont slam Canadians everytime we post so get over yourself. Being from Dearborn he could very well be arab since that is the majority in that city.

What's your point, oh wise and all knowing Canadian.

Perhaps - just maybe - the antenna is part of the Motorola iDen specification (since Motorola invented the beloved iDen radio network)?

Look, I donít want to pile on Corey...

Dawg, Iím not Arab American, just your plain Jane Caucasian.

But to put this thread back on track, The interference from my i530 also comes thru the radio, my point was that in my best guess that was why the NEXTEL Blackberries were not allowed in the Parliament Building. Maybe itís due to interference with some type(s) of electronic or system. I know when I worked at a Nuclear plant radios were assigned frequencies for safety reasons...Just a thought

I wasnt saying you were Arab I was just saying you could be..

But I imagine it has to do with the actual notification of DC on the mike system as well as nextel not the interference if I had to guess. But even if thats so I dont understanding having to give it up at security why not just make sure they put it on vibrate.

Ya... so if I said OMG my Rogers signal is the reason I can't take my phone into the white house, what would people say... Ummm Rogers is a Canadian carrier and doesn't have towers in the USA... I think it's incredibly naive to think that Nextel anything in Canada could be a reason for anything.

You people can jump on me all you want, but the fact is, sometimes I make sense.

NJB... what's your point? The point to my post was that it had nothing to do with a signal or an antenna... where you came up with an antenna issue out of all that is beyond me. And seriously... who cares who invented iden? Telus uses it up here for their Mike network. I think your post was completely useless... and as for the all wise Canadian thing... seriously... the majority of americans are not as smart as the country would seem to think they are. It has been proven over and over, time after time. You can jump on me all you want, but I am still right.

Corey I was in Canada two months ago and my nextel worked just fine there so it very well could be a nextel issue so your point is mute.

You are byfar the most arrogant A$$ I have ever encountered on a forum. I'd say most Canadians I have met are quite humble compared to you and I deal with four or five on a daily basis. I call one a true friend.
